It would be extraordinarily concerning if this were to become standard practice. Right now we've a got a system that generally gives people time to weigh their offers, go on visits, and make decisions without much time pressure. The only endgame for the Notre Dame strategy is for the class to include a large number of people who were on the fence about coming but were pressured by the feeling of missing out. That's not a good recipe for a happy law school class.

This does sound messed up.

If I had been accepted at a school that I had applied to and they told me I was out of luck later on the same day I would have been pissed. I am glad that people are drawing attention this for future applicants.

idk how to beat the drum, SEO wise, but i hope adding to the post-count of this thread about NOTRE DAME and ADMISSION PRACTICES to NOTRE DAME will help. anything to help APPLICANTS make an INFORMED DICISION ABOUT THE INSTUTIONAL ETHICS of the school they APPLY to.

That is infuriating. They should have found a way to make it work with a bigger class size this year - they essentially revoked students' acceptances. They'd better see a major drop in applications (and ranking) next year.

Yeah, my own school was overenrolled in the year ahead of me. They dealt with it, in part, by offering significant scholarship bumps to folks willing to defer. Notre Dame could have honored its acceptances without creating a bank rush, if they were operating in good faith.

This is a really scummy practice. “To hell with Notre Dame” - Bo Schembechler.

What a joke. Reeks of desperation, too.
