Which firm can we count on to battle it out with Cravath/Milbank and raise the bar this year?

S&C if they think it's an opportunity to prestige grab, Skadden if it wants to get back at all the "Not a real V5"ers, maybe Debevoise to boost its Vault ranking after seeing Milbank jump like 15 spots?

Just reaching here.

Maybe Simpson Thacher so they can relive their glory days of being market leaders for compensation (back in 2007)

No one is raising this year. Everyone will be batten down the hatches and waiting to see if there's a downturn next year based on partner convos and hiring trends around here.

You've forgotten the NY to 180 190 200 spirit already. Stay optimistic and keep bringing it up until it happens. Save the downturn talk for elsewhere.

Hoping for raises before the downturn is just asking for a duller blade before the lathaming

Ny remains; everyone else to 160k please and thank you

midlevels and juniors get a bit screwed because senior associates gotta get a bigger bonus but our all in cop is over 400k, which is a lot considered half of them are barely hanging on / checking out.

The comp takes a big jump for 3rd year bonus/4th year base salary because that's when you are in the best sort of position to jump.

It’s kind of silly though because it’s the same across all of big law. It’s retention at the industry level but not really at the individual firm level

Davis Polk is having an associate town hall next week at which I assume this will be announced. What else is there to discuss?

Yep, I can't wait to hear the NY to $210k announcement. But maybe another firm will beat them to it!

my firms scale never changes but a few years ago they cut the "regular" bonus in half and added a "discretionary" bonus to get up to matching so it feels like a special treat

There were actually no questions asked about this. From the general vibe of the meeting, I’m guessing people felt it wasn’t the time or place.

A few questions about working from home, flex time, health care costs, but none about comp or bonuses.

So do we think salaries will increase next summer or do we have to wait and hope that the bonuses increase next year?

We need summer bonuses again, at the very least.
