LSAC changed the score release date from July 6th to June 29th.

https://www.lsac.org/jd/lsat/test-dates ... anada-june

Do you guys think this will be the actual score release date or will they still try to release earlier than that?

-Hope everyone's prep is going well!

I was asked privately to comment about this, and so I thought I'd share a bit of the timeline on LSAC's comments about score release and what they did thereafter as background.

Back in December, LSAC released scores extremely early and posted a statement on Twitter indicating they "heard our candidates’ requests for earlier scores at this time in the admission cycle." Then, in March, as the February 2017 LSAT score release was approaching, they posted a second statement on their website from Kellye Testy that said:

...we are making changes to permit quicker score releases in the future, while also maintaining our commitment to accuracy and fairness. We will have additional information on specifics later this spring.

In the meanwhile, for the rest of 2018 we will set the release dates on the scores on an aggressive timeline to minimize your wait time, and stick to that schedule to minimize any anxiety about those release dates.

Italics added above by me for emphasis. So, that looked pretty good! Not only did they promise faster releases but also releases on the date stated. That satisfied a lot of people, until they released all the info for the June and July tests this year. Instantly obvious was that the promise of "an aggressive timeline" wasn't what we had all hoped it would be. For example:

  • June 2017 published release timeline: 24 days from test (released 1 day early)
June 2018 published release timeline: 18 days from test (but changed from originally being 25 days from the test)
    • July 2018 published release timeline: 23 days from test
      • September 2017 published release timeline: 26 days from test (released 1 day early)
September 2018 published release timeline: Release date not set

Data from LSAT Score Release Dates - Scheduled vs. Actual Comparison 2004 - 2018 and LSAT Dates & Deadlines.

As you can see, the June LSAT release timeline was initially 1day longer (wtf) but then moved up to ultimately be 6 days earlier. For the July test, we don't have a direct analogue since this is the first July test ever, but a timeline of 23 days isn't all that great compared to the June 2017 (24 days) and September 2017 (26 days) horizons. Maybe that's a result of the added July test date being hurried out the door, but given that we know they can score an LSAT in as little as 2 days for individuals, and as little as 5 days for whole centers, I wouldn't call the new dates all that aggressive even with the June adjustment.

Knowing that the new dates aren't overly aggressive opens the door as to whether they will release scores early like always. It sure seems possible to me, which would be a nightmare for everyone. I've said for a long time that I wish they'd pick a date and keep to it, and it looked like we had that coming, but I'm less sure now. For the time being I'm taking them at their word, but I'll be very interested to see the release dates they post for the exams after July.

Anyway, sorry for ridiculously long essay, but it's an interesting question and an issue that had been bugging me!

TL;DR: the new release timelines aren't that aggressive and I don't trust they'll stick to their announced dates.
Ah, thanks so much! I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Using old PTs is perfectly fine. I used 1-32 just to do drills. But I do recommend using newer ones for the final week or two.

They're all pretty relevant tbh. Lots of people use the older ones (like 1-40 or so) to drill which is a pretty common practice. But certain things have changed in newer tests. Many say LR is harder now although I never saw the trend in a 'hit you in the face' kinda way that many have said it happens. RC is a bit different with questions in that IIRC, there are less structure questions and more inferential questions (it's been a while since I studied, but I think this is correct). But either way, older tests are still very helpful for learning many of the basics, but just keep in mind that there is a slight change to some things in newer tests.

Also a reminder: no disclosing of questions. General things: "Dang RC was really hard" is fine. Discussing specific questions is not.

Really pissed at myself - I think I fucked up one of the rules for the games. I felt so good about the test on the whole, but I know it's gonna be -9/-10 and missing those 3-4 really fucks me up.

Can we make a separate waiters thread?

We usually did on TLS, but y'all are free to wait however you want. I just remember my waiters thread was fun.
