my torts prof said that watergate inspired a lot of his age group to apply to law school, but (1) that's apocryphal; and (2) seems like a political bump would have been in 2016 or at least began in 2016. 30% increase for this year alone is pretty drastic.

There was a pretty decent political bump in 2016, I thought, but I could certainly see another one arising from the protests etc this summer (that said, I'm sure a lot of it is pandemic).
