Chances for t-14/Harvard with one bad semester.

Post by Bamaguy1997 » Mon May 25, 2020 9:33 pm

I have a 3.75 gpa with a 172 lsat, but I had one semester two semesters ago where I withdrawed from two classes and got a d+ and a C and an A because both my grandparents had died within a month and my godfather passed away so I was out of state and devestated and depressed. Since then, I have received 17 strait A’s. Without that bad semester i would probably be easily in the 3.9 categories, but how do you think I should go about this when applying to law schools. Currently at a top 25 undergrad. Do you think I am a candidate to apply for Harvard law?

Did you really take 17 classes over two semesters?

If you pay the application fees, you're a candidate to apply for HLS.

But you're really asking if you think you can get in to HLS with a 3.75/172, and the answer seems to be maybe, but don't count on it. Ideally you would retake your LSAT to improve above their almost static 173 median LSAT to counteract your comparatively low GPA, even with an addendum explaining your situation in that one bad semester that they'll undoubtedly notice when they look at your transcripts since those grades would be off track from the rest of your transcript. But even without improvement, and assuming you write a compelling addendum for that semester, it's likely a "shoot your shot" situation, while applying to the rest of the T14 for probably really good outcomes and cheaper options than HLS (but not guaranteed since you could be max need-based aid eligible that might make it closer).
