179 3.8 t-6

Post by Æthelstan » Sat Apr 24, 2021 8:51 am

Hi all,

Curious about my chances in the t-6. Also specifically curious about the possibility of money at the likes of CLS and NYU.

LSAT: 179
LSAC GPA: 3.8

Thanks!

From memory, these numbers would position you very well in these areas historically.

A word of caution, I have seen reports that this year has been a bonkers year, with a spike of high scoring applicants in the system compared to recent years.I would suggest taking a look at some of the Spivey blog post, including the opening of the audio discussion at https://blog.spiveyconsulting.com/curre ... edictions/

(also discussion of next cycle starts around 19:45)

ETA: while Notre Dame is not among the schools that you are asking, this odd story highlights some of the oddity for this cycle, and raises questions on what future cycles might look like

Yeah, historically, your odds are good, though we don't know what the spike means for someone with your numbers. And of course, there might be a bigger scholarship a bit lower in the t13, so don't write the rest of them off.

Those are strong stats. Throw your hat in the ring and see what happens. Don’t apply for just the T6, though.

P.S. Don’t apply to Notre Dame. See previously linked thread.

Historically speaking your chances should be very good, but we've been hearing more about high scorers with the LSAT Flex so there's a chance your 179 may not get you as far as it otherwise would have. Here's a chart comparing to past applicants (including scholarship offers), for reference: https://mylsn.info/d5230b/
NYU looks like your best shot at good money within the T-6.

I'd apply broadly across the T-13 (to any schools you'd be interested in attending) since you could get offered a full ride elsewhere. And since you have the luxury of having your score already, I'd submit your application on the earlier side - September or October - for a slight bump in your chances too.

any other year it's pretty much in at H from what i can tell. but this year's, and may be also last couple cycles probably even since 2016-17, been crazy.

iirc, there was a time around 3.75-3.80 range and 172 could reasonably hope for H interview or wl minimum.
