Chance Me! 165 LSAT, 2.8, AA Male

Post by Duckhat » Wed Jun 20, 2018 3:45 pm

Cross-posting this here at the request of the general What Are My Chances thread-

I've got a 165 on record and retaking in July and possibly September. I've topped 170+ a few times so can eke out a few more points.

My 2.8 is offset a bit by 5+ years work experience in the public sector. Good LoRs as well.

Given the above information I'm aware that 170 would probably get me $$$ at WUSTL and possibly an in at Northwestern. What I'm looking for from readers...

1. What, if any, top 30ish schools could I get into with my current numbers? Specifically interested in big law. I'm also aware that there is no guarantee for big law outside the top 7ish
2. What does the retake choir think? Keep gunning for 170?

I am all too aware of the crushing debt law school can place someone under. I am not interested in paying sticker with no guarantee of getting big law.

After the feedback there I am still leaning retake but happy to hear additional viewpoints.

Retake. If your LoRs are just "good" as opposed to "warp drive," I would just retake. If you can hit ~172 you should be golden.

If you hit 170, your options open way up. You start looking at UT, Georgetown, Penn and UVA as reasonable options (although with not much money if any) on top of NU and WashU, as all schools have been known to take heavy URM splitters. Depending on your work experience and the strength of your app, the rest of the lower T13 may follow too (minus Berkeley likely). Columbia and NYU are probably your only shots at T6 and those will be very tough. The rest of the T6 is out.
