Does anyone here have information about how difficult it is to secure a position as an attorney either with the Department of State or USAID? I'm a green student attending HYS w/ language skills and wondering what class rank I would need, whether it's more/less difficult than getting DOJ, etc. Is getting one of these rare "public international" jobs almost impossible?
I think difficulty would depend on a slew of factors, most pertinent to you being what time in your career you would apply. For an entry level position, you'd need an honors program or something at that agency to break in right out of law school. For something requiring experience, not clear what practice areas they want you to have experience in. I imagine it would be more transactional for USAID because of the nature of their work. Dept of state, not sure.
