I just lateraled into biglaw as a midlevel into a biglaw firm from a boutique. My salary has now doubled (new firm starts cravath but then less as more senior, still substantial jump for me). Part of me feels like the work will be the same while the other part of me feels like I am going to have to fake it till I make it. For those of you who lateraled into Biglaw from a smaller shop, how was it? FWIW, I’ve done L&E at smaller shops and still will be doing L&E (so any L&E advice appreciated)
I can't speak to L&E, but as a general rule you'll be working on bigger matters with bigger teams, so you should expect that a higher percentage of your work will be intra firm stuff. More drafts, more meetings, more memos to file, more voluminous records, etc... Otherwise it's more or less the same thing...every firm will have its own quirks but for the most part the work is fundamentally the same.
