Who decides to fire an associate in biglaw?

Post by Kümmel » Wed Dec 18, 2019 8:29 pm

Are partners all on one large slack channel shit talking associates and then voting to fire/ask to leave underperforming associates? If associates work with so many partners who actually makes that decision?

Hoods raised. Candles lit. Circle drawn. The dark halls awaken with revenants once more.
Their voices are legion, but their words — though they echo — are few:
The junior is dead; the firm lives.

I've heard that it's done by a type of "nomination" process at some firms where if a partner wants you gone, and no one objects, you gone.

At my firm, a 6th year got fired by his local office despite doing 2/3rds of his work for a different office. And he had to tell the partner's he worked with that he was leaving.

Couldn't they just re-hire him at that office?
