Is that how cold-calling works? I thought profs just looked around and called on people on the spot.
Some do but most assign people to certain days or dates based on last names.

I’ve seen it done all sorts of ways. Some professors go down their name chart alphabetically, some go across a random row of seats, some will let you know that you’ll be on call the next class, some use random number generators, some smell the fear in the room, etc.

Lol no. That's an optional thing only open to upperclass students. LPW moot court is a joke.

For OCI and LinkedIn, is it bad to have a clear political inclination on the resume? I did a lot of campaign internships/fellowships in UG and kind of worried that it’s not very safe for law recruiting. Should I leave some off my resume/LinkedIn, or try to water them down a bit?

If by super intense you mean most people were forced to be there by their LPW instructors and signed in with their IDs only to leave as soon as it wouldn't be perceived as rude, then yeah, it was super intense.

Are any other incoming students unable to complete the Welcome to Columbia tutorial? I can’t get past the Academic Integrity page no matter what computer/ browser I use.

congrats! You’ve now completed your Colubmia tutorial. This was designed to get you accustomed to our ability to frustrate you for no purpose and make you deal with a bureaucracy that only Satan himself could create.

Same problem.

God, the fact that they make us watch this bullshit at all is unbelievable to me. Seems to be a University-wide thing and not something foisted on us by the Law School, at least.

If you ever work as an RA, you will also be subjected to a sexual harassment training that takes 45 minutes if you skip through every panel, 3 hours if you actually care to do it properly.

Sounds odd--isn't the predominant risk in that context the risk of a female RA being the victim of harassment from a male professor?

You have to click into each of the tabs within that page and watch the video for each (applies to all subsequent pages where there are multiple tabs). Enjoy

The issue I am having (and which I imagine the other person is having as well) is that it may have eliminated some of the tabs from Academic Integrity. I just have "Introduction" and "What is Academic Integrity".

Yeah that’s the issue I’m having as well. It seems like there are supposed to be more images than actually appear.

Is there a Facebook page or market website where people go to buy upperclassmen’s used textbooks? Tears

During orientation, there will be a table set up where you can be buy previous editions of most doctrinal courses (functionally no difference) for $10 each. There's also a way to get up to date editions, but it's somewhat unscrupulous. PM me about it.

No. You'll have it forever.

(don't be "that guy" who uses it as their personal email account after graduating)

Glad you brought this up actually because I've been wondering. Post-grad is it fine to just go back to using regular gmail for non work related stuff? I assume using work email for personal is a no-no but if you have some kind of in-between need where work email isn't appropriate but gmail might not be professional enough, what do you use?

Gmail is standard for personal email, IME. I recommend, if you haven't already, set up an account with some variation of your name. My personal gmail is firstname.lastname@gmail.com

Orientation includes some of the most God-awful sounding shit...1.5 hours on "creating an inclusive community", an hour on "academic integrity"...how possible is it to skip that crap? Is it like ASW where it's very possible or are they serious about making it mandatory?

I left after lunch first day and before lunch second day with no consequences. People will usually get in groups and go out afterwards though so you may not want to excluded from that.

I heard that most schools use Examplify for exams. Is that true of Columbia?
