Aside from BL + FC employment data and location, what other factors should someone consider when choosing a law school?

Example, why should someone pick UCLA over UCI, aside from location, if UCI provides more opportunities to prestige jobs?

No reason to pick UCLA over UCI if that were indeed true. But it does make sense to consider historical trends/historical placement. Obviously, UCI is a bad example because it’s so new, but students really shouldn’t get caught up with a school’s most recent ABA employment report; rather, they should look at the last 4-5 years of data when evaluating the relative placement power of schools

But I guess to answer your question, you should consider cost. Cost. Cost. Always.

You literally just beat me to it. I'd finally found their reports and was coming back to search and make sure I wasn't duplicating efforts.

Yeah, I was updating their page with the graphics, but thought, "well, let's click on the actual form link and see what's what." Same for Kansas once I saw you'd posted it.

I'm just doing the occasional refresh on NYU and Iowa now.

I'm still hunting one additional one for my spreadsheet, but it's not likely to beat 10%.

looks like fordham continues to be a solid choice. why is it ranked fairly low for its pretty good employment stats? I really dont get the ranking system at all.

Reputation, GPA/LSAT medians, etc.

No reasonable person thinks US News rankings are very useful for deciding what school to attend.

Eh, an increase would have looked good, but if you factor in PI/gov employment, NYU is up there with CLS and Chicago in terms of BL/FC + PI/Gov

NYU - 91.5
CLS - 92.3
Chicago - 94.8
(these numbers were calculated quickly so feel free to correct if I made a mistake)

Duke (the other 80+ BL/FC school) is 86.1 fwiw.

I realize this metric is irrelevant for some people, but it shows how PI self-selection can marginally affect these numbers, notwithstanding a diatribe about how BL/FC is simply a proxy for general placement power.

This is awesome. NYU is still a good choice for law school.

Can you do the same for Georgetown? Thank you!

I got 78.9 if you count FTST gov and PI positions (GULC has a pretty large number of people in these positions, however, so that is a caveat)

From a corporate perspective, it’s nuts in LA right now. My firm has everyone firing on all cylinders and talking with friends at other firms it’s the same. Restructuring is also insanely busy as is finance. Also, it seems everyone is trying to poach everyone else, as the number of calls from recruiters is only getting more annoying. Who knows how long it’s going to last.

Also, query whether UCI has taken some of USC, UCLA, and maybe Loyola’s market share if you look those schools pre-recession numbers (i.e. what numbers were those schools placing in 2007 (60%, 60%, 30%) compared to now— are UCI’s numbers just an aggregate of those deltas).

This thread has been great. Special thanks to MT Cicero and Stranger.

Anyone know the expected release date for NALP data for the graduating class of 2017? I was unable to turn anything up from a quick Google search.
