Is there anything you wish you knew before starting at GULC? Do you have any advice/stories/comments about orientation?

You get 10% off at the cafeteria if you pay with a GOCard

Don't be that guy who wears a suit to orientation.

Or to the first day of class. Or to subsequent days of class.

What should we wear for orientation? Short and flip-flops?

Does anyone drive to school? Thinking of driving my car from CA to DC and commute to school. I'll be living with my partner so I won't be staying in the dorms.

Ideally.

Pretty sure this has been asked an answered on here. It's doable if you don't mind driving really early or spending an eternity in traffic. Probably not better than public transportation-based alternatives, but doable.

I've noted this before ITT but yeah--it's $8.50 a day, which is only slightly more than a roundtrip from my stop (takoma). if you go really early (like 7 am) traffic is fine, by 8:30 it took me anywhere from 1.5x to 2x as long to drive as to take the metro. The student spots in the garage fill up by like 10 or 11 am, and it doesn't clear out till like 4 pm. It is considerably more convenient to just live close to a metro stop and take the metro to school, or live really close to school.

If you metro every weekday though I think the unlimited monthly pass is a bit cheaper than just the one way rates

There's an unlimited metro pass option?

yeah you pay a flat fee based on the distance you typically travel and then your trips at that price point are unlimited—and if you go out to Tysons or something more expensive, the difference comes out of your balance. But for commuting it's definitely better value than loading money on to your card.

Does the gym membership include a towel service? Or do you have to pay more for it? The website says there are daily lockers but are there any lockers to leave things in for the semester?

There are towels for free use in the locker room. I don't know if you can get a locker actually in the locker room for the whole semester, but you can get one in the sport and fitness building.

What is the grading curve like for clinics and are there any clinics that anyone would recommend in particular?

Clinics are not curved. I did the civil rights clinic which I enjoyed but if I could do it over again I’d do the appellate immersion clinic or the civil litigation clinic since they seem to be far and away the best organized and taught. Stay away from the law students in court one.
