Any info on section 5?
I was in 5 last year. Molot is a great teacher. He's not super friendly outside of class but teaches really well and no surprises on the exam. Paul Smith is great. Love that guy. He's new to teaching (we were his first Con Law class and second class), but taught well, and even if he didn't, him just being awesome would have made class worth it. DeLaurentis was also great. I didn't like the class, but I'm confident she made it as good as possible. I haven't heard anything bad about Reich. I didn't have him but many friends did. I can't speak to any of the other first semester profs.

Gornstein is great; his exam was a little strange, but not unfair strange or anything. Don't know about the other prof. I've heard good things about Gottesman, but I didn't have him. I will bet my ass he's better than who we had, so that's good. Hasnas was fine. You knew torts by the end, but because he would try and socratically drag things out of people for as long as it took, the class could drag. You have to show up for class and do the reading. He cold calls those who sign in by semi randomly drawing cards, and you have to sign in a certain amount of times to avoid having your grade lowered. He also gives a "bonus" for signing in a certain amount (most people get it, so really you just have to do it to not eat it on the curve).

Damn I foolishly asked for section 1 without looking up the profs first, but then I ended up with section 5 and it based on here/ratemyprofessors it seems like all the section 5 profs are at worst hit or miss depending on the student, but mostly rather good. Looks pretty good to me.

Also for incoming 1Ls like myself, I created a thread in the Classes section. Let's get 'er going.

Gottesman is awesome and his exams are fairly straightforward.

I guess you have to wait until orientation to buy textbooks for the courses that are given in small sections, right?

Your profs might make their canvas page available before orientation so you might find out earlier but don’t bet on it.

Anyone know, with more specificity than "late July", when journal results should be announced?

Historically they are actually not announced till early August but only a current EIC of a journal can keep you appraised of how slow things are going this year

Have they ever been released after EIW? EIW starts July 30th this year so early August would be after.

Hmm no AFAIK they are always released shortly before EIW but then again EIW was always in August. You can reach out to the Office of Journal Administration and ask whether results will be coming out before EIW. I assume this is the plan but you never know with this place.

Do the JD and LLM students interact very often? For example, I'd really like to play some intramurals this year (particularly the UVA softball tourney), but the LLM class doesn't come off as having tons of people looking to play.
I never interacted with an LLM student in three years

ETA then again I am not the most social person

There are FB groups for most sports

If you're a JD student whether or not you interact with LLMs will depend on what classes you take and what groups you join. If you're an LLM in a specialized program you'll almost certainly be in classes with plenty of JDs, and I assume the same is at least mostly true for the general LLM for foreign lawyers as well. If I'm reading you right that you're coming in as an LLM and want to do intramurals idk how many other LLMs you might encounter in whatever sport but I wouldn't expect you to have much trouble getting involved.

We (softball team) brought at least one LLM to UVA this past year. At least a few attended practice occasionally too. It's definitely mostly JDs, but the LLMs were always welcomed as far as I could tell.

I remember TTL being a nice safe haven for tax LLMs. Good ol' days.

I mean I came from PA but just buy a jacket and find other californians and southerners to commiserate with.
