Entering Class Year

Post by anonclerk » Sun Apr 15, 2018 11:12 am

I'm coming off a one-year appellate clerkship, and I have to decide whether to enter my firm as a first-year or second-year. Bonus $$ is the same either way, I think. Salary will obviously be higher as a second-year. Are there any reasons to consider joining as a first-year? Will I be expected to know more if I come in as a second-yr? Thanks in advance.

There won't be any drop off in expectations if you go as a 1st year. Take the money.

Would coming in as a first-year buy you more time before the firm pushes you out under an "up or out" policy?
