I like how you kept the picture
Just when I thought our banner couldn't get worse...it did. I'm honestly impressed.
what should the banner be?

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the vast majority of these positions were for summer associate gigs at private law firms. Am I wrong?

I guess what I'm getting at is that with a 3.92 and 100 non-biglaw applications out the door, you should have received more than 2-3 interviews with a 3.92 from a T1 school.

If I was wrong about the guess in my last post, then I recommend that you have your career services office look over your application materials again.

Its just literally every job thats been posted on my school's job board. probably like 30-50 of them are SA, I've also applied to RA, and many many small firms weird tenancy things, but I have avoided criminal stuff. I think im going to go to them again, something has to be wrong with my application to be not even getting a screener interview. I didnt even get the small firm thats near my hometown, like 2 hours away from the school, which has the exact field that my bachelor's is relevant to.

You should stop applying to private law firms at this point--even small ones--and target your efforts toward state and federal agencies, non-profits, and judicial externships.

I'm surprised that you struck out of close to 100 "paid" positions with your grades and school rank, but not super-shocked or anything. If you're willing to work for free, there is definitely free legal work to be done.

And you don't need to rely on your school's symplicity page.

Good luck! You will find something.

Yeah, consult USAjobs and the arizona handbooks for government jobs and talk to your career services office. You probably should have applied to some USAO and FedGov jobs earlier if you didn't.

I did all Tuesday/Thursday classes once in college- honestly, I hated it. It was nice to have the days of break, but those days were exhausting. Vowed to never do it again. Might be different in law school though, bc you'll probably be making better use of your off days than college-me did?

Yeah I'd say definitely reach out to career services and have them look over your materials. Potentially an even better option would be to have a practicing attorney (e.g., an alum of your school or someone who is willing to spend some time with your resume, etc. and give honest feedback) look over everything and give their thoughts. Someone from my law school sent me their resume (after having career services supposedly look at it) and I identified some errors/typos that would've definitely made me not consider hiring the person. I also had several attorneys (who worked in the jobs I wanted to work at) look at my resume and used their advice to make my resume "look like theirs" while I was in law school and was applying for jobs.

Career services looks at lots of resumes and cover letters, etc., and sometimes they miss stuff due to volume/fatigue/occasional incompetence. My school's career services went through like 9 different career advisers during my time there and it was hard to rely on getting any sort of legitimate feedback/advice, so I started reaching out to alumni instead.

How do you think your screener interviews went?

I'm underwhelmed by 2L. Good news is I'm getting to the gym a lot.

So what's everyone doing for 2L summer? My plan is to intern with a state public defender and appear in court. Also need to get started on clerkship applications soon.
