background checks for clinics?

Do law school clinics typically require background checks / character and fitness type things?

Not that I’ve ever heard of. And it wouldn’t make much sense to require one considering everything done during a clinic is under the supervision of a licensed, practicing attorney whose responsibility is to ensure you don’t do anything unethical/illegal.

This is a good distinction I didn’t consider. I would imagine most gov entities that require them for internships and employment would also require them for an externship. But that’s obviously completely different than a clinic offered through the law school internally.

I've had to do a background check for a law school clinic before (working with juvenile clients).

i vaguely remember having to fill out a form or two to get certified as a student practicing law but it wasn't anywhere close to a c&f app.
