So I got the email that loan applications open today and was looking at the Harvard preferred lenders list and am torn. All the advice I have gotten so far is to take out federal loans and avoid private ones, but the two private lenders they list (Citizens and HUECU) seem to have better rates and similar other terms. What are you all doing? I've never taken out a loan before so excuse me if I'm missing some obvious reason.
My understanding is that the federal loans will treat you a lot better if you get into trouble and cant pay off your loans. But then again cant you declare bankruptcy on private loans? Tbh I'm taking a bet on myself surviving a few years in big law to pay off a good chunk of a private loan and taking advantage of that low interest rate

No cooking appliances of any kind (even though we have no meal plan available and only one kitchen), no wall hangings larger than like a standard picture frame, "quiet time" after 11pm...

heres the full list.

Are you all getting help from friends/family when moving into HLS dorms? 1L move in day is August 27th, and the website says helpers are available at no charge only on August 14th and 23rd.

Unless you burn the dorm down no one is gonna notice that you have one

Wanted to give everyone a head's up that the Orientation schedule is finally up! I just noticed today. After you take a look I'd love a second opinion on some things. It doesn't explicitly state any dress code, so I'm wondering if we need to business casual/professional? I don't think so, but I'd love your thoughts. I know orientation is mandatory but some of the events seem kinda like come-and-go type things. Four hours for campus tours? No, thank you. Only the events on the 29th-31st are mandatory right?

hey classmate!
thanks for the notice, what a coincidence that I just logged on here for the first time in like a week haha.

As for the orientation stuff, business casual is what i'm expecting. If I look frumpy the first day then i'll adjust.

Sounds like you at least need to pick up your HUID on the 27th or 28th

Thanks for the heads up! I'm definitely not planning on dressing business casual, the schedule seems like we'll be moving around a decent amount and there aren't really any formal seeming events, so I'm planning on dressing casual-but-nice (e.g. no ripped jeans or anything, but like, a nice summer dress or black jeans and a nice-ish shirt or something similar). Also, all the photos on the orientation website show people dressed fairly casual so I think that's fine?

Like black_mirror said, I think we have to pick up IDs on Aug 27 or 28 but otherwise yeah, only 29th-31st are mandatory. I probably won't go to much on the 27th or 28th, maybe the Campus Life Fair for an hour or so when I pick up my HUID? I might bring my spouse to the spouses/partners social, but it's during working hours, so it kinda depends on his work stuff.

I've heard rumors that orientation is like a week long drinking binge. Idk if I want that to be true or not.

Hey all!

I was sifting through the old site's HLS Class of 2020 and 2019 threads and saw that they received their section assignments on August 11th and 10th the past 2 years! Anyone want to speculate if we're getting them soon? Or does anyone have any insider knowledge other than the ever-so-descriptive "mid-August" date we got? Excited to meet you all!

Did anyone else have a ton of problems with financial aid, I've essentially had to remind them to credit my account with every loan that I requested, individually.
