I'll throw in the other side. I'm taking the money. Here was my prestige vs debt calculus:
I’m leaning this way a bit myself. I’m not especially debt-averse, but I am unhappiness-averse. If Harvard outcomes = happy, then awesome. Cambridge is cool, and I really liked the other admits I met at Harvard ASW. But I could get into Saturday football games and Go Blue on the street and no debt.

Is there a special form to fill out to withdraw or can I just do the general email to the admissions address? I tried to google it, but didn't find anything.

The commitment form also includes withdrawal options

Hey guys; does anyone have experience with requesting (and receiving) a *provisional* estimate of financial aid from SFS (I'll be doing a joint degree and matriculating only next fall, hence the provisional award) and having it change materially when you matriculated? I received my estimate yesterday, and was very unpleasantly surprised to see a 7k/year offer. This is despite the fact that my parents combined make less than the US household income average, and I'm an international student with a really adverse exchange rate. Anyone willing to share broad strokes of their aid package, please also DM me? Thank you so much in advance; v distressed :(

Do you not have to pay a deposit at Harvard? I filled out the enrollment form, am I good to go?

I don't think you have to pay a deposit for Harvard. I think they got rid of it pretty recently. Side note, I finally got my book!! at least I'll always have it as a momento.

Is it possible to estimate financial aid I can expect, even just a ballpark? Currently on the waitlist but got a feeler call and am trying to figure out if this is a real possibility of not!

I got a pretty good estimate of my financial aid package using the information on Harvard's website and the College Board EFC calculator. Try inputting your age as 18 in the calculator to get your total EFC and then use Harvard's student budget to estimate your financial need.

From what people have said I wouldn’t expect too much aid. But yeah use that calculator

Hey y'all.

Waitlisted kid here trying to see if this is a viable option. Is there any way one of you could log in to the housing portal and see if there's anything left for on campus housing? Sorry if there's a way for me to do this, I just dont think I have the right kind of log in credentials.

Thanks!

There are still rooms in Gropius (Ames, Dane, Story, Holmes) and Hastings. Around 80ish rooms, so doesn't look like they'll run out anytime soon.

About how long does it take to get your HUID and email? I really want to access the housing portal but can't yet.

Do you remember if there were many left in Hastings? Also waiting to get my HUID and can't check housing until then

Thanks! Do you know if there is a waitlist etc, or can I nab one ASAP if they're still available by the time I get my ID?

No clue how it works for you guys, but for us it was first-come first-serve once we got access to the housing portal (which was a separate process than receiving the ID as we had the lottery for regular applicants).

Does anyone know if you can have a non-harvard-affiliated roommate in the Harvard University Housing? Specifically Terry Terrace? My boyfriend is moving with me

Is anyone going to the dc alumni events on Tuesday and Wednesday? Skadden and Shepard Hamilton are hosting dinners. I will be there.

So I got the email that loan applications open today and was looking at the Harvard preferred lenders list and am torn. All the advice I have gotten so far is to take out federal loans and avoid private ones, but the two private lenders they list (Citizens and HUECU) seem to have better rates and similar other terms. What are you all doing? I've never taken out a loan before so excuse me if I'm missing some obvious reason.
