Hey guys, I am a 0L applying for Financial aid for this fall, and was wondering from your guys' experience if waiving the student health insurance plan and staying on my parents plan will have a negative effect on the amount of grant aid I will receive? Or does waiving not matter because that grant aid would cover it regardless? I appreciate any help, thanks so much!
I spoke to someone in the financial aid office about this, and they said people who qualify for grant aid would get the full amount of the insurance covered under the grant aid, and if it's waived then the grant will be reduced accordingly. Basically, whatever "bump" in grant aid you'll see is ONLY specifically meant for the health insurance. So if you waive it off the bat in your application, your total student budget will reflect the fact that you are NOT going to get your own insurance. But if you waive it then add it later AND you qualify for a grant already, then your grant would be increased to cover the cost of the insurance. If you say you're gonna get the insurance, get a grant, then waive it later, your grant will be reduced by the amount of the insurance.
Awesome, thank you so much for this information I really appreciate it!!

For those who have submitted their deferral requests and have been approved, approximately how long did it take for you to get approval? Just submitted one ~two weeks ago (per recommendation of HDS, where I'm doing a joint degree and which suggested I start with them so that I can stay with my 1L section & graduate with them), but I haven't heard back whether or not I've been approved yet...
It took me about 10 days! I spoke with Nefyn because he happened to send me a "have any questions come up" email and he said they meet about once a week to go through deferrals.

Same. After a lovely email informing me I was prima facie denied consideration for need-based aid (which is a shock because I received full need-based aid in ugrad). Yay!
I got full aid in UG too and HLS’s outlined policies had me more than a little shook.

I don't know why I'm so nervous about ASW.

Thank you for this! I sent my request in ~3 weeks ago. I also emailed the General JD-Admissions email. Do you think I should hit up Tom (who was my interviewer)?

If you already emailed the general one about your deferral specifically, I don't think I would yet! maybe once it's been a month?

Hey all, I'm graduating from HLS and trying to find some folks to take over my apartment starting on 6/1. It's a really nice 3bd, 2ba apartment about a 15-minute walk from the law school. If you're interested, PM me for more details. Thanks!

I didn’t think about this until my mom asked, but what is the attire for admitted students weekend? I would assume casual, right?

From Jessica, "Dress for the weekend is casual."

@Cog2k & I are at ASW and we want to meet the rest of the LSL. We have a code going around. It is, "Did you think the clam chowder needed more salt?" 😂😂

I'm down to meet up with some LSL people tomorrow! Getting a table at breakfast would be easy, yeah?

ASW1 has pushed me to being like 95% ready to commit. Still going to SLS ASW to get that sweet $560 reimbursement, so PM me if you're going too!

What did you learn at ASW that makes you want to commit?

ASW1 people - did you guys get any cool swag during the event?
The HLS-branded tote includes an HLS-branded canteen-style water bottle.

That I loved HLS's size and the faculty. Their events calendar was fantastic. The campus, current students I talked to outside of ASW days/parameters--it all felt right.

ASW made me 95% ready to commit, but then I remembered the debt and it went back down to 50%.

TFW Tom is sending me all these awesome opportunities at Harvard, but I don't know my finaid yet and will likely have to pass it up due to debt.
