Are you talking about an internship/externship or an actual post-graduate clerkship position?

Re: Post-Grad Legal Research

Your firm (if it's large) will have unlimited access. But what you use will still be tracked and billed to the client . So you still should be mindful of your research costs. One way to save money is get a physical copy of a treatise from the firm library and use that as a starting point. That usua...

I wrote out a whole thing just now but forgot a very important preliminary question. What is it specifically that makes you tired of being a lawyer?

Re: Guide for Transferring to Another Law School

How do schools measure GPA versus class rank? My GPA is 4.07 (hoping to bump it up more with spring grades) putting me in top 2% at my school (T2). But would my GPA be given more weight than my class rank or vice versa? Schools are going to look at both because a GPA doesn't mean much without ranki...

Re: Clerks Taking Questions

Definitely not a dealbreaker, and I don't think it's a huge deal, but depending on the rest of your resume, I might want to see that you did something else besides just take classes. I honestly thought that most journals required members to write a note, so if it wasn't on your resume, I'd assume yo...

Re: Guide for Transferring to Another Law School

Hi Nebby -- any guidance about resumes? I have a few things that I usually do not put on my 1-page resume that I'm considering putting on my xfer application resume. I'm thinking of a language program that I did in Europe and some volunteer work. I think it makes me seem more rounded out and intere...

Re: AU WCL -> GW/ Georgetown

I've always wondered why AU has so many transfers out, and to impressive places as well (6 to Harvard alone) for a school ranked in the 70s. Any insight? AU was ranked in the 40s just a few years ago. It failed to reduce its class sizes, as other schools did, to remain selective as the number and q...

In addition to answering the questions above, which you should absolutely do, can you also say more about your job having paid for a good chunk of your tuition? Was that some sort of general allowance for education, or were you trying to go back to your office/department(?) in a legal role?

Re: Biglaw Litigators: Would you do it over again?

For me I dislike dealing with opposing counsels in lit not so much because some of them are assholes, but more because usually plaintiff's counsels are fucking buffoons , incompetent, and make things harder for everyone . Feels a bit like the pot calling the kettle black. eh, there's a difference b...

Addendum to "What is biglaw": What is the Milbank/Simpson/Cravath scale? The MSC scale is the payscale used to determine base salaries for associates. In June 2018, Milbank Tweed raised the base salaries of its [current and incoming] first-year associates to $190,000.00 USD and increased salaries fo...

I'd wear a suit to be safe. It is an interview, after all, and if you want the job you should project an attitude of seriousness/professionalism/respect. I wore a suit, and the professor jokingly said something like "ah, you didn't have to dress up for me" and we sorta laughed it off and it was fine...

No, you should not worry. The firm does not care. I mean, if you fail a class, you might have to explain that, but that's it. Relax and do the best you can on your exams and you'll be fine.

Re: Bar Prep - What to do in Last Two+ Weeks

Excellent post. I will emphasize/add a few things: 1. If you've been neglecting the MPT, now is the time to lean into it. If you are in a UBE jurisdiction, plan to take at least 2 or 3 practice MPTs before test day, preferably with at least one back-to-back (2x MPT) session. Set a day, wake up, go t...

Were you interested in it before or was it based on firm/office need? Did you know anything about antitrust law bef...

Re: Accepted SA for 2L Summer but I Want to be in different city

My advice (which is good advice) is this: do the summer gig in the city that you have right now. Crush it and make as great of an impression as you can with everyone, especially partners. Try and find one or two partners, preferably with clout and firm-wide pull, and let them become your mentors. T...
