Re: Univ of Texas School of Law students / grads taking questions

Thanks so much for all these answers! What is the process for getting on law review? Grades, write-on, or some combination? 75% of slots are a combination of grades and write-on (but grades are more heavily weighted). 25% of spots are purely reserved for write-on: basically the highest write-on sco...

Emkay625's Guide to 1L Success

This OP chronicles my advice to 1Ls about making a study plan. It is largely based on my own plan as a 1L during the fall semester. I hope others will find it useful, and I'll continue to edit the OP over the course of the next several weeks. I hope to work on it a bit each day until it's fleshed ou...

A lot of boutiques don't publish their salary info on Vault. Is salary compression common among boutiques that pay 180k starting?
We've matched Cravath all the way up. Not certain about other Texas boutiques.

Re: Callback Tips/Interview Advice

A few general tips: 1. Do your homework. Know what practice areas the firm has, what offices, etc. 2. Have a list of prepared questions (true for all interviews, tbh). 3. Most importantly, just seem responsible, nice, and genuinely interested in the firm. They are trying to see if you would be okay ...

Can we get a forum for discussing success in law school? Study tips, sharing outlines, etc.?

I'd like to make a helpful 1L guide as part of our effort to get good content up and running. (I already have one I share with people.)

If you’re willing to splurge then I recommend: The Fold London, Ted Baker, or LK Bennett.

Re: Building a Female Associate's Wardrobe

Dresses are my jam, but I want more variety. I also have needed a new suit for about a year but am overwhelmed by the idea of actually going to a bunch of stores to try them on and then deal with tailoring :( I only got a suit tailored one time and that’s because it was way too big. Banana Republic...

Re: Building a Female Associate's Wardrobe

Definitely lean into uniform! Whatever it is! My uniform just sort of evolved to dress/dress with blazer because it’s easy, it’s less pieces to figure out, and it’s hot here. It changes on days I have depos or hearings or client meetings, which is about once a week, and then I’ll wear a full suit. (...

Re: Litigation Boutique Associate - AMA

Plaintiff/defense work split? 10 depos, ~32 motion arguments, and 2 trials in 16 months sounds like plaintiff stuff. Any of that pro bono? If plaintiff, how are the bonuses? We do both plaintiff and defense work, but about 80 percent defense (maybe even higher, idk). None of the things I’m talking ...

Re: Building a Female Associate's Wardrobe

Loft is just such poor quality and has so many dumb sleeves these days. I am willing to spend between $50 and $80 on a good quality top. Have you thought about trying stitchfix? You can specify a price range and say what types of things you're looking for. You can also sync up a fashion pinterest b...

Re: Building a Female Associate's Wardrobe

My pick for most basic work blouses is Banana Republic. The price point is right (generally between $45 and $75) and all of mine have held up really well after a ton of cleanings. I also have several tops from MM.LaFleur, and they have been definitely worth the price if you want a splurge (between $...

Re: Clerks Taking Questions

When do I actually need to start thinking about applying? Currently a 1L, I'm sure I'll get more info from the school at some point. Does most hiring take place in the post-1L summer? You should begin working on your applications during the summer. At that point, go ahead and work on your cover let...
