I THINK you almost definitely cannot get there in three years. my supervisor makes a bit over 6 figures and she has been practicing for a lo...

Re: So you think you want BigLaw?

And it’s a common question, but I’ve done work at a midlaw firm, and the hours expectation wasn’t so demonstrably different than the market biglaw firms to say its good money for less work. In fact, the firm I worked at had the exact same billable (and paid the same initially as big firms in the ma...

Re: Guide: You're an undergrad student (or in high school!) and you want to go to law school

But really, what should I major in? No really, you can study ANYTHING you want. would you suggest staying away majoring in Legal Studies or Pre-Law? Pre-law isn't a major, and I would suggest staying away from "legal studies" only because it's not really employable if you don't go to law school. A ...

Re: How does one actually make partner?

Above posts seem to cover all the bases. I think it comes down to (1) tons of hours, (2) book of business, (3) current partners pushing for you to become partner, (4) doing consistently top notch work, and (5) luck. how does this differ at smaller / more regional firms? some firms seem like partner...

waiting a year can come at the cost of 160k to 180k for a year in forgone biglaw income.
I think salary after tax is a bit over 100K, which would be more than cancelled out by the debt at these schools, so no.

Re: So you think you want BigLaw?

there are some smaller firms in my home state that I'm considering (if the hours requirement is way lower) that pay below market, but still 100K+ ("mid" law?). any downsides to choosing a firm like that over big law? (experience, job stability, anything else). Risk of working same or similar hours ...
