Re: UNC C/O 2021

Hi HangingAround! Wow - congratulations on the grades and the job!! It sounds really great! Thanks a ton by the way, for all of it. All your comments are definitely very helpfulI. I am reading Getting to Maybe - but I have a feeling that it will start making much more sense once school starts. Also...

Thanks HangingAround for all that info - I followed some of your older posts too and all the threads have been super insightful.. it's really helpful to read and learn from current students perspectives! Re: The Definitive Thread on North Carolina (NC) Law Firms

Tagging into this thread as someone who would ideally like to land in NC. Raleigh born, raised, and undergrad, worked there for over a decade, currently in SC, going to W&L this fall. With 30+ years of ties (and plenty of family in the state), will going to school in Virginia hurt me much with NC e...

Re: The Definitive Thread on North Carolina (NC) Law Firms

anyone still active in this thread? I check it, don’t remember your last question before you edited it, but I didn’t know the answer. I don't remember it either but I think it was pretty unanswerable anyway. a new question: how big is pre-OCI hiring in NC? is it hard to get callbacks via networking...

Re: UNC vs Wake vs UW Madison

Just FYI on this note - new employment stats show Wake Forest BL + Fed Clerk at ~20% while UNC is ~31% (increase of about 7%).

Re: Very good friend of mine just failed the Bar for the third time

Very good friend of mine just failed the North Carolina Bar for the third time and he is not barred in any other jurisdiction. I'm trying to give him as much hope encouragement as I can but man, I feel bad for him. He has a wife and two kids btw. Any advice for him I can pass along? I want to do so...

Re: UNC vs Wake vs UW Madison

Hi, Hangingaround Thanks for the response - what you said is pretty much what I'm expecting out of them. TLS is just so useless at this point, hivemind has gotten out of hand. I couldn't even respond to them spreading misinformation in my own thread, because a mod won't approve my post. They were s...

Re: UNC C/O 2021

This was a response to another thread, but since it has UNC info that people may find helpful, here it is. Not sure if UNC is the right choice for you, but this can at least provide some more information from a 2L perspective: Sure, you shouldn't expect a great job from UNC. Sure, the most likely ou...

Re: UNC vs Wake vs UW Madison

This was my response to your thread on the other site, and is something of a response to the idea in this thread that neither UNC nor Wake will get you biglaw (though they probably won't). Sure, you shouldn't expect a great job from UNC. Sure, the most likely outcome may be small firm, or state gove...

Re: The Definitive Thread on North Carolina (NC) Law Firms

Parker Poe from old thread -- I believe Parker Poe is 130k starting out. Friend of mine is summering there and his/her pay works out to 2500 a week, or 130k a year. Though I've heard from an attorney there that they revamped their compensation structure to raise first year pay (and allow for more ho...

Re: The Definitive Thread on North Carolina (NC) Law Firms

MVA/RBH from old thread -- In leaner times (2010) MVA was 125k starting with 5k raises a year https://abovethelaw.com/2010/03/nationw ... -universe/ Before that they were at 145k with larger yearly raises. That thread also contemplates bonuses even in those years from below 5k to 50k so who knows. I...

Re: The Definitive Thread on North Carolina (NC) Law Firms

Asheville from old thread-- Ward&Smith has a small office there. They're the biggest firm (in terms of # of attorneys) in eastern NC. Probably 100 or so. The Asheville office does some interesting work with breweries though I imagine it'd be difficult to land that office. Also, they have all their s...

Re: The Definitive Thread on North Carolina (NC) Law Firms

Brief Kilpatrick discussion from old thread -- they came to UNC OCI and said they were interviewing for Raleigh and Winston in NC, along with Atlanta and other bigger markets, but I haven't heard of anyone going there (or even doing a callback) in the 2L or 3L class, while I have for the other firms...

Re: The Definitive Thread on North Carolina (NC) Law Firms

Just my post lifted from TLS - hopefully others join. My opinion isn't all the informed on these, so take it with a grain of salt. UNC student. Raleigh: At UNC's OCI we had Smith Anderson, Wyrick Robbins, K&L Gates, Poyner Spruill, Brooks Pierce, Ellis & Winters, Troutman Sanders, Smith Moore Leathe...

The Definitive Thread on North Carolina (NC) Law Firms

Moving this over from TLS for general discussion of NC firms. This is again proposed to be the place for Q&A on NC firms, discussion of NC firms, etc. that isn't 3-4 years old.
