Does the Darrow still come with a stipend? If so, take the Darrow and run.

Re: Harvard vs. Yale NY Big Law
The reason posters pointed to transactional NYC work is because that’s basically the Target of T14 graduate hiring. There’s a barrier to entry, but it’s not as hard as it might seem. As Nony covered, there is a difference between NYC Biglaw lit and the other, more finite and highly discerning areas ...

I was hired as a 35+ prospective big law hire. I have no idea if my age/experience helped or hurt me, but it worked out for me.

Does your school not have a legal writing program where 2/3Ls or practitioners review and critique your work? If not, what school is it so we can shame them for having substandard legal writing training?

Re: Serving in Army Reserves during law school?? Impact on admissions?
There is a boost in Biglaw hiring based on Veteran status in some markets, TX being the primary one. But this usually relates to those who have served previously who are then going through the hiring process. I’m skeptical the same boost would exist for someone with zero military experience. And ane...

This is a question I'd never considered and belongs in the PSLF/LRAP thread, but can you claim PSLF based on serving in the Reserves?

Re: Serving in Army Reserves during law school?? Impact on admissions?
And to follow up on one point I have yet to experience but genuinely worry me too: your goals of clerkships and a private career may be even less compatible with serving in the Reserves. So maybe one four year contract won’t impede your legal career, if you choose to continue service, it could becom...

Re: What are my chances ?
You need to be more specific on what you're asking chances for here. T14? Scholarships? etc I'm aiming for Harvard, but if that doesn't work out, any other one of the HYS. As pancakes said, be careful prestige chasing when you may not fully appreciate how prestige works among the top law schools. F...

Re: Serving in Army Reserves during law school?? Impact on admissions?
I served in the Navy Reserve throughout law school, so it's a bit apples to oranges comparison, but I think enough overlaps that I may be just the type of person you're looking for to provide some advice. I'll try to be as concise as possible, but this is a big investment in time, effort, and attent...

Re: Chances at T14
Extremely likely in a bunch of the T14, even a good shot at NYU. Note that the below data will be slightly optimistic because I use a range for LSAT and GPA that hits a couple of important markers, namely 3.9 GPA and 172 LSAT. That could skew the data, so you should try going to that website and pla...

Re: background checks for clinics?
Clinics generally don't, but there are some externships that do if you're with certain gov agencies This is a good distinction I didn’t consider. I would imagine most gov entities that require them for internships and employment would also require them for an externship. But that’s obviously comple...

Not that I’ve ever heard of. And it wouldn’t make much sense to require one considering everything done during a clinic is under the supervision of a licensed, practicing attorney whose responsibility is to ensure you don’t do anything unethical/illegal.

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!
But in that scenario, you're still paying ~$200k over the life of the loan, with the only difference being you've stretched it out and you've been forced to regularly plan for that looming tax payment. And that includes a bunch of baked in assumptions on income growth and fixed costs over the life o...

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!
I did some napkin/online calculator math based on $50k salary and 2% income growth and $145k loans at 5.7% weighted interest and got just over $300k forgiven.

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!
I guess what confuses me is that the tax bill doesn't seem that bad. Doing some very rough back of the envelope calculations, let's assume you had 200,000 forgiven. So you'd have a tax bill of roughly 100,000. But you'd have 20-25 years to save for that. If you put away like $5k a year for the inev...

Yale with COAP for someone all-in on PI or really anything is almost always the right call. That said, the prospect of full boat & COAP scares the bejeezus out of me personally, even if it scares me much less than other LRAPs & PI outcomes.

Remember that admissions will not be following typical cycle patterns this year. That doesn't mean November will necessarily be any better/worse for the upcoming admission cycle, but it won't be as formulaic as in years past because everything from testing to LORs are frustrated by the current publi...

Re: PS, re-apply
1) It depends, but possibly a good tack. Without reading the actual PS, it's tough to say whether it's effective. 2) A total re-do is preferred, but not strictly necessary in a PS. If you can minimally try to revise/reframe the PS so that it shows what you're hoping to show in a new or slightly diff...

If you pay the application fees, you're a candidate to apply for HLS. But you're really asking if you think you can get in to HLS with a 3.75/172, and the answer seems to be maybe , but don't count on it. Ideally you would retake your LSAT to improve above their almost static 173 median LSAT to coun...
