Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

It suggests that they aren't engaging in a heated competition in this area (appealing to prospective students who want to go into PI that may not pay well). I know I cared a lot about this when I was applying to T14 schools (I didn't apply to Cornell + some others for this exact reason). Over ten y...

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

I wish the salary cap would have gone up more. 50k to 55k is laughable Is there a list out there of the salary caps (under which the person's payments are fully covered) that would allow comparison among schools with LRAP programs, or at least the T14? I *think* the spreadsheet in my PI thread has ...

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

For IBR, you have to have "partial financial hardship", which basically means the amount due on your loan every month has to exceed the amount you would pay under the IDR program. A lot of T14 schools will allow you to go in on their old pre-PSLF LRAP if you find yourself in a situation where you ow...

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

I’m currently on REPAYE and I am not elpigible for PAYE. My soon-to-be spouse makes $75k and I make $120k. He has no loans but I have $200k+. I’m working for the federal government and have 8 years left for PSLF. Looking at calculators, it seems I have two options to keep my payments down: (1) don’...

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

Okay, but I need help fact checking. My general information on spousal income is 3-4 years old. If someone else wants to write something as well, I'll link to it in the OP.

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

Nice. As soon as the budget text came out, I ctrl+f'd "loan forgiveness" and I wasn't able to find that. Good catch.

Glad to see another year going by with no hard caps on PSLF yet.

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

Huh, that's kind of weird actually. If you consolidated your loan, would your LRAP just not cover any of your IBR payment then? I don't understand the logic of the school saying "Well, normally we'd give you more money except that you have unrelated undergraduate loans that don't affect your IBR pay...

Re: Types of PI work with $$$

A lot of the jobs you're describing are actually business/non-law jobs rather than positions that actually require a JD. Where I live, those spots tend to range from the low 40ks (very small non-profits) to 150k (management-level city positions in community development departments). I've known attor...

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

Do clerkships qualify for PSLF? Yes, as long as the clerkship is federal, state, local, or tribal. International clerkships (Hague, ICC, ICJ, etc.) or foreign governments (Israel, South Africa, etc.) would not qualify for PSLF. This is true even if the international organization you are working for...

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

Wouldn't NYU then, which has an 80k no-contribution cap and a protection for negative am through the one-time payout if you leave the program, be the best LRAP then? (at least given your weariness of the high costs of the HYS and optional Columbia LRAPs? I would say Columbia's is best, but I don't ...

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

Do you think T14 schools (read: schools with substantial endowments) will go back to straight am LRAPs should PSLF end? HYS + Columbia (optinal) already have these programs, and NYU allows those who are in non-PSLF PI jobs to use a straight am plan too. Should this be something that 0Ls should fact...

LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

Hello LSL friends, This is a longish post about LRAP/IBR/PSLF. I will expand on the post as people have questions and comments, but the baseline is a simple explanation of these programs, what these acronyms mean, and why you should pay attention to them. Basics of Income Driven Repayment Law school...
