Re: NYU LRAP: please walk me through

these are exactly the sort of questions you should be asking NYU, it's not adversarial at all (except to the extent you've added color commentary to the questions, which I'm sure you did for the purpose of forum posting). these are all probably a little too specific for you to get advice from here, ...

Yeah not legal advice but in your shoes I would show that fucker if I wanted to stick around at my old job. Also not legal advice, but I would also trust your instincts re: sharing screenshot vs sending letter not being a relevant difference, just in case you have some documents that actually are co...

Yeah absolutely no reason to limit yourself to t6 and there’s literally never a reason to go to h (b/c if you get in there you almost certainly got a better financial offer somewhere else).

if you're flexible about what side of the aisle you're on Gibson Dunn and Hogan Lovells pay top dollar and have very prestigious international human rights practices[/url]. This case aside, appellate work in general could be a decent way to do "human rights" work in big law. I know that at my firm ...

I mean to be 100% on the level international law is just law but with annoying conflicts of law problems and with clients in wildly different time zones. My life has gotten way better since dropping the international part of my practice. If u want to help people internationally there are more effect...

Re: Human rights / international public law firms ? Salaries?

If you want to do work to protect human rights, you’d probably have to work at a unicorn nonprofit job or certain federal government jobs in the state department (also rare). None of these jobs pay big-law rates. You probably will never have a salary that can compete with a big-law salary. But you ...

oh jeez yeah, I didn't realize how far out it was. Would not go. The combination of no network in place and it being really difficult/impossible to do clinics/externships/whatever with local lawyers makes that a tough sell even if getting a gig in philly was everything you'd ever hoped and dreamed f...

Philly seems like a cool city, but that's putting a lot of eggs in a basket kind of randomly. There's not a clear path back to California if you go and don't like it.

Isn't legal aid PSLF eligible? I'd be debt seeking if I was legal aid or bust. You consider a NON Lawyer position in the military? If you go E-4 for a few years, that debt is normally pretty much gone like magic. You young/healthy/crazy enough? There are lots of MOS other than JAG. DISCLAIMER: I am...

I'm currently a 3L and have been using the GI Bill for law school. I'll have three semesters of tuition coverage left when I graduate. Are there any degrees or certifications that would work particularly well with a JD? (Not necessarily as something to pursue right away, though that's not entirely ...

is it an either or thing? if you've already missed 3L OCI, I would just accept the offer, but I have no idea what the schedule looks like with covid. would not voluntarily enter the veil of tears, should be easy enough to jump ships once you start if things stay good.

Re: LEGAL SALARY DATAPOINTS

Yeah you can scale in law somewhat. But equity biglaw partner takes 15 years which kind of defeats the point of scaling. It’s also not 10x scaling but more like 1.4x scaling. Pyramid scheme vs true scaing. Shitlaw equity partner or Personal injury is def scalable, but the risk there is insane. tech...

Re: LEGAL SALARY DATAPOINTS

Also true ^^ Getting rich stacking hourly labor dollars is such a suckers game. You have to scale somehow, be that in equity or impact decision making beyond law. In house gives you opps at those. Billable hour never will. ehh, if you work at a firm you can scale by stacking associates. It just doe...

Re: Just lateraled into Biglaw and making twice my salary - what should I expect

I can't speak to L&E, but as a general rule you'll be working on bigger matters with bigger teams, so you should expect that a higher percentage of your work will be intra firm stuff. More drafts, more meetings, more memos to file, more voluminous records, etc... Otherwise it's more or less the same...

Re: Do a large amount of plaintiff’s lawyers tend to be conservative?

P. Lawyers and private crim defense lawyers are also much closer to small business owners than big law patherns so it wouldn’t be super surprising if they’re more aligned with the chamber of commerce worldview than big law patherns, who are technically owners but not really.
