Re: Careers in legal aid

Idk what the legal services field is like in Pittsburgh but it's fairly robust in Philly. That's a nice place to live and work. But I wouldn't count on Dickinson (tho a good school) having legal services portability outside of the mid-Atlantic. A Los Angeles legal aid org. is gonna take Loyola/Davis...

It's not gonna get you legal aid in California, but it will get you legal aid in Pburg or Philly.

Yes you should do that. Feel free to DM me, I was an extreme splitter who went to a mid-tier school for the purpose of landing legal aid work and I did.

Re: Careers in legal aid

Isn't legal aid PSLF eligible? I'd be debt seeking if I was legal aid or bust. Yeah this. Debt is fake. PSLF isn't going anywhere. (Johann citation.) Potat, don't worry about the debt but also don't worry about the prestige of schools or whatever. The #1 most important factor for legal aid and PI s...

Not if Arizona is where you want to work / live.

Are you saying you're just open to legal aid work anywhere in the country?

Re: Careers in legal aid

Hello All, Decisions are still pending for the 21-22 application cycle, but I have already received a generous offer from ASU Law. I'm currently living in Southern California, and I have several years of WE in a social work-adjacent, human services position. I am committed to public service and pub...

Re: Careers in legal aid

I've heard those are mostly one year contracts ? Is that true ? No. Regular employment by legal non-profits. Bigger cities will have specialized practice groups, smaller cities / rural will often have generalized practice groups. It's usually forms of poverty law - crimin public defense,, housing, ...

Re: Clerking's killed my interest in practicing law

Follow up: I accepted a position with a public defender agency for after my clerkship. The office I'll be working at was my top pick and is in exactly the geographic area I wanted. My clerkship's also went much better since I last posted; I work in a clerk pool and I tend to get the nuanced, compli...

Re: WTO+Covid

@Blendedunicorn: thank you! this explains so much. I was so focused on the Biden admin, that I forgot about the dark time before und repressed the fact, that Trump was president even in a little part of 2021 Also forgot totally about that EO, since it's relevance was questioned back then. But now i...

Re: CUNY Law vs New York Law School

CUNY has a 75% employment score on LST, the degree is far from worthless. And $15k a year is amazingly cheap. For that price I don't think there's any real harm in going for it. Other than your life being consumed by part-time law school for years, which does sound pretty awful. The 75% employment ...

Re: CUNY Law vs New York Law School

NYLS is not good unless you can go for $0 total cost of attendance and have a job lined up at a small firm or something CUNY is a great school only for people who want to go into government or small-time public interest Absolutely do not go to a school with a GPA stipulation attached to your scholar...

Re: PSA: Do Not Pay Full Price for a Bar Course (NEGOTIATE!)

Similarly, Kaplan had a buy one get one free type deal. If one person pays for a course, a friend pursuing a PI job can get the course for free. Kaplan would initially insist that the first person pay full price, but that was also eventually negotiable. anyone have any information on this? ugg/JD t...
