Re: URM 2018/19 Applicants Thread

Hey guys! So I applied super late (at the deadlines) and finally got my LSAT score back. Can someone chance me? H, Columbia, NYU, and Cornell are my top choices. Stats: ~3.85/165 AA URM. Thank you! My man finally wrote the LSAT, congrats, and nice score :P. You should also apply to Yale (if you're ...

Re: Repost in the correct place: Would it be weird if I didn't mention race on my application?

Are you concerned because you checked the box with your information about your race but aren't putting it in your essays? Or because you're not mentioning it at all? Candidly, you should put it in your essays, if you're hoping for a URM boost. For public universities in many states, they are banned...

Can we please make a thread of urm's who had average to poor stats who still beat the odds and got into law school. My lsat is in the 140's and I have only been waitlisted at a few tier 2 and tier 3 schools. I need some inspiration. Please share everyone! I have some helpful LSAT materials I can gi...

Re: So you think you want BigLaw?

Totally buy it, and I'm not coming at it with legal experience, but I've had those hours before and cooking has always been my priority. It's an odd personality quirk, but it's certainly a core one. The question is more trying to gauge how much people who have the gig spend on groceries vs. eating ...

Re: LSL URM Thread 2017-2018 Cycle

Curious to know how AA URMs are doing this cycle with GPAs in the 3.8-3.9 range and LSATs in the mid 160s? What type of options would someone with those kind of stats have? Congrats to all my fellow URMs who are killing it this cycle. Motivation baby! <3 I have a lower GPA but am in at HYS so I wou...

If you don't mind expensive, Jonathan Wang (of 7Sage fame) is supposed to be really good.
Highly recommend Jonathan. His understanding of the test is literally unparalleled imo. He's broken down questions for me that I never thought I'd understand. He's expensive but worth it.

Re: Spivey Consulting Q&A with Adcoms from Yale, Harvard, Penn, Chicago etc.

Hey Spivey. I know this topic has been covered to death, but I was wondering if having 3 Withdrawals on my transcript will materially affect chances at H and CCN. I have two W's already and am considering dropping a class where a B is looking likely,(Advanced Physics class that is curved to a C). M...

Re: So you think you want BigLaw?

yeah, i would definitely be wary about people leaving vs. being hired. that is where the bigger issue is. if a firm is routinely hiring a diverse class but their midlevels and seniors are all white (or all men, for that matter), there's probably something afoot, probably culture wise (ie tons of mi...

Re: So you think you want BigLaw?

I don’t have personal experience with this, but just based on my understanding of issues of diversity in law firms, partly it’s that there are still far fewer AAs at top schools, so a smaller pool of applicants. Also there are fewer AA partners. I bring up the latter because I think I’ve seen discu...

What is hiring at big firms like for AAs? I've looked through a lot of the firms' bios that I'm interested in and it seems like there are very few black associates. A few even had only one or two... Is that because many of the AAs at the top schools choose to do something else? Do they generally ha...

Re: Law School Admissions AMA with Spivey Consulting Group - LIVE TODAY 3/6

I want to start by thanking the Spivey team for all they have done and are doing for the community! My question is about URMs. As an AA URM who is planning to apply to the top schools, I'm curious about what things admissions consider (or weight differently) that might be a bit different from non-UR...

FInally - the July 2018 test date is an option when registering for LSATs on lsac.org! Although, it is currently listed as "not available yet." If the test center I took the test in December & February offers this new July test, it's a wrap. Per LSAC, registration for the July 23, 2018, LSAT will o...
