Re: First Trial Jitters
I strongly agree with the above post. You are not alone and what you feel is totally normal. Some of the below advice is probably obvious, but I’ll throw it out there since I have pretty bad anxiety over public speaking, especially formal occasions in court or before agencies. Practice until you can...

Re: Stub Year Questions
For a stub that’s normal IME. I only started needing to work on weekends once I got ramped up on a number of projects and weekend work became a matter of just needing that time to finish everything on my plate - not necessarily people emailing me to do stuff on the weekends (though that also happens...

Re: Biglaw and Pro Bono
Probably depends on the firm, but basically you just work more. At my firm, probono hours count towards billables with no hard limit. If you do more than 20% probono you will get a talking to and it's likely that anyone who is even close to that number is not on partner track. But that does leave pl...

Re: Lit or Transactional
Regulatory is better than either as far as I'm concerned. But people would probably throw it in the litigation bucket (and I do some litigation when it comes to that). I have always felt like transactional is mostly for people who didn't like what they did in law school and don't know what else to d...

Re: Consumer Class Actoin v. Securities
This type of class action is literally a public service. Let’s be careful here with the use of the word “literally.” You are not literally doing a public service. If you were literally doing a public service, you wouldn’t be taking 40% of what the the slice of the public you’re helping was awarded,...

Re: Best way to handle saying dumb things by mistake?
I say dumb/awkward stuff all the time, nothing quite as unfortunate as this, but shit happens, especially if you're an anxious speaker. Just try to be better and take the advice of the people in this thread. Would not recommend stirring it up any further.

Re: UVA Law Students & Graduates Taking Questions
Agreed with above. I am sure there were people who used it but I never heard about it, so not "pervasive." I would guess the majority of people who are taking it at UVA have legitimate prescriptions and aren't just calling undergrad hook ups for a study bump or something.

Re: Closed Book Exams
agreed with the above. i started every closed book exam by immediately writing some broad level outline. as with all exams though, the best preparation is to take as many practice tests as possible. for policy essays, if you have some idea of what type of question might be asked, i'd have a few poli...

Probably all of these have hard cut offs, different for each school.BroilersNotStewers wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 9:42 pmDoes anyone know which of the bigger firms, if any, are likely to have hard grade cutoffs? I was assuming Latham, Gibson, Irell, MTO, and Susman.

The small city Jones Day offices got bumped up to 180k today. So like Cleveland, Columbus, etc. Tbh that’s the only reason to work at jones Day. They got those podunk offices where you can make $$$$ where did you hear this? Cleveland is still at 170, not 180 Isn’t 170 a ton for Cleveland?

I browse a lot of personal stuff on my work computer. Nothing inappropriate, but news/forums/banking/bills/etc. Maybe that makes me dumb, but no one has ever said anything to me. The firm limits access to most social media though, so I use my phone for that.
