Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

Do a lot of Harvard law students grill their meals? My husband and I grill any chance we can when the weather is nice. But we're lucky enough to have a little yard where we can keep a grill. Most people who live off-campus are in bigger apartment buildings where grilling is likely not possible. And...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

I did zero journals in law school and it’s probably the best decision I made. Take a PLAP case instead. I definitely agree, a PLAP case is a much better use of your time. That being said, the 1L journal commitment is ridiculously small so it wouldn't be a big deal to spend an afternoon subciting to...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

how do 2L grades get released? All at once, trickle in? When do they start coming out? The lack of info on this subject is so annoying My fall grades have always come at once but sometimes professors submit late so there’s a lag - that seems to especially happen with Spring grades. The past two yea...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

Anyone know how many LPs Rubenstein usually gives out for CivPro? I didn't allocate my time that well and didn't mention everything I should have, only got like 3,800 words down. Should I be worried? You're probably totally fine! It's super natural to feel like you did bad after an exam when you re...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

Anyone get an H in LRW despite having some typos/orthography mistakes? For some reason my eyes didn't catch them the first time around, but today I saw them. Can good research/structure override some errors, or do only super polished essays stand a chance at an H? This will entirely depend on your ...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

Hi there! an any current students tell me how they found off-campus housing and recommendations for where to look? Ended up using craigslist, and that seems to be the way most do it. Another option is: https://www.harvardhousingoffcampus.com There's also a ton of Harvard Housing facebook groups you...

As for HLS, you can walk on to any journal that’s not the law review as a transfer. I know several transfers who are now in senior editorial positions on journals.

HLS: https://hls.harvard.edu/dept/sfs/spif/spif-policies/amount-of-funding/ For 280 hours of work over a minimum of 8 weeks for 1Ls (and 2Ls/SJDs if they don't do more hours as detailed below): $5,200 for students on financial aid* $3,600 for students not on financial aid * “on financial aid” is def...

Has anyone taken Election Law/any other course with Nicholas Stephanopoulos? He's visiting my school in the Fall and I'm wondering how he is in the classroom.

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

Hey does anyone here know much about LIPP? I have this question: can you put yourself on a 15-year repayment plan instead of a 10-year one? Will LIPP still pay you the 10-year amount, thus letting you pay less in monthly loans? Obviously you wouldn't pay down the loan in the 10 years, but it would ...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

Any of you think there is actually a chance that the administration improved LIPP? I know a bunch of students sent an open letter to the Dean. There's a lot more than just that open letter going on - there's a whole coalition that's been organizing all year around it and will continue to do so. The...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

I am considering renting a one bedroom, 500 sq ft, dog friendly apartment located in between Central and Harvard Square. It's $2100/ month. I have two dogs, and this is one of the cheaper options I have found that are dog friendly. Is this an okay price or is it too high?? That's a normal price for...

Re: Darrow vs. Harvard on LIPP

Take the Darrow and don't look back - and I say that as an HLS student going into PI. You can achieve the same outcomes out of Michigan and graduating with $0 debt is an incredible opportunity. I'm very grateful for LIPP but it has all sorts of restrictions that just aren't worth it if you have the...

Re: Harvard ($32K/year) vs. Columbia (Hamilton)

I can definitely empathize with you Saami, but I really think you're making the right decision. The ability to graduate debt free (or very nearly) at a law school that will afford you incredible opportunities in a city that hosts many of those opportunities is simply unparalleled. I wish you the bes...

Do you think HLS would let me keep a 6 hour a week LSAT tutoring position in 1L?
The only official rule that i'm aware of is that you don't work more than 20 hours a week so HLS won't stop you.

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

I have a 15 minute walk to campus (and also mainly study at home) and I think it's the perfect distance. That's not really a long enough distance for me to ever take public transit, but I'm pretty sure there's a bus I could take if I really wanted to. I really value the walk because it's time for m...

Re: Harvard ($32K/year) vs. Columbia (Hamilton)

I already told you over PM that if I were you I'd take the Hamilton over HLS (as someone at HLS also planning to pursue PI), but I wanted to add that you really do need to look critically about how living on LIPP will affect you for the decade after you graduate. Even if your spousal income won't c...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

HLAB is a different story. That is definitely competitive -- I don't know the exact admit rate, but I know plenty of people who did not make it. But while it's definitely an amazing opportunity for those who want it, it is also in no way required if you want a PI career, so not making it isn't a pr...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

I will be getting married in July, so wherever I attend law school, I plan on doing all my internships in the same city and will most likely be getting my first job within the same city. This is one of my trepidations with choosing Harvard over Columbia. New York City offers so many opportunities, ...
