Re: SCOTUS and Other Big Cases

So, help me out here. What we have learned in the tax case is that no future administration ever needs to respond to any request made by congress or anyone else. All they need to do is find the dumbest attorney available, have them scrawl some completely unsupported bullshit in crayon and submit th...

Side note - When you get an assignment, get a deadline. Nothing worse than pushing something to the back burner because it sounded like a non-priority and then having a partner ask why the hell he doesn't have it yet.

One of the more interesting 5-4 splits this session. Ginsburg, Thomas, Sotomayor, Kagan, and Gorsuch in the majority. https://twitter.com/SCOTUSblog/status/1140625276201840641 I haven't read any analysis of this yet but is there a chance this could be used to undermine challenges to gerrymandering ...

Firms vary on whether they do background checks or not, so I doubt anybody can help you without knowing what firm you're applying to. Unless you're confident that you can get both DUIs entirely erased, they're going to be there no matter what if the firm does a background check so what's the harm i...

Re: Cold Emailing Issue

It doesn't have to be a list, it's as simple as the offended partner emailing HR or the hiring partner and saying "don't hire this person". It can and does happen. Wait do most partners keep such a list then ? Do associates pass it to partners? I think the idea isn't that there's some blacklist out...

Check out lawschooltransparency.com. LST gives New York Law School an employment score of 50.6%. This means that 50.6% got full time jobs that required passing the bar within nine months of graduation, meaning that 49.4% were not working as lawyers. That's a coin flip.

Assuming you've kept out of trouble since 2012, I think this stuff is far enough in the past that it's unlikely to affect your admissions chances. The GPA is a bigger deal. mylsn.info will give you admissions chances: http://myLSN.info/mscrqt_30-132.jpg More importantly, you've picked a bunch of reg...

LSAC doesn't care what your college says your GPA is. They are going to recalculate it using their own method based on the credits and grades shown on the transcript(s).

Small and medium firms will almost all require as many hours as large firms but pay less and have fewer exit options. They will lie and talk about work life balance. They're lying.

That's interesting-I would have thought the opposite honestly. So u do see insurance companies being more stingy paying bills than other clients? Or is it more that they just want thorough documentation and shit? Also curious what sort of claims you focus on, but understand if you'd rather not shar...

Re: Consumer Class Actoin v. Securities

This type of class action is literally a public service. Let’s be careful here with the use of the word “literally.” You are not literally doing a public service. If you were literally doing a public service, you wouldn’t be taking 40% of what the the slice of the public you’re helping was awarded,...

Chasing prestige is where many people go wrong and why their biglaw careers end abruptly What about the ethical side of the practice (ie disinterested plaintiffs/ "ambulance chasing") My firm specializes in a very specific type of consumer class action, and I don't feel bad about it at all. Re: Consumer Class Actoin v. Securities

I dont think that prestige is really a concern on the plaintiff side of the bar. Law firms market to their clients. Fortune 500 boards want to cover their ass, so they find the most prestigious firms because it's the safest. Plaintiffs are looking for a paycheck, and lawyers with billboards and TV ...

Okay, so Katz would be an example. That's the one where police couldn't bug a phone booth without a warrant. Another example would be if police wanted to use a satellite to track you all day. That wouldn't be a trespass onto your property, but would be a violation of your reasonable expectation of ...

Supreme Court rules 5-4 that cops need a warrant to get cell phone location information: http://cdn.cnn.com/cnn/2018/images/06/22/16-402_h315.pdf I was disappointed Gorsuch dissented until I realized that his dissent was just him taking the opportunity to go ballistic on Katz.
