* I hold no positions in any stocks mentioned except FB, which I am balls deep in. ** None of this should be taken as financial advice. And standard disclaimer that I’m a pretty big risk taker (sometimes to the point of being dumb). *** SNAP in 2018 is probably still dicey and could continue to fall...

Re: CS career megathread / AMA

I'm guessing IBM, Oracle, HP, Dell/EMC, etc? And that's really good insight into SWE vs. DE. I knew a little bit about the PM and UX distinction as compared to SWEs from blind but had no idea about the SWE/DE split. Interviewing for TC bidding war purposes makes a ton of sense. yes about the bolded...

Re: CS career megathread / AMA

What's the reasoning behind the SWE vs. DE comp like that from a company perspective? I would think that data engineers and data scientists add similar value as software engineers do.

You check all the boxes (good grades, great tax grades, demonstrated interest in tax), so I think you're close to a lock at both.

Looking forward to FB being the recipient of a series of multi billion dollar fines related to the GDPR. Should do wonders for their stock.
Yeah, the EU really crippled Google ($700B market cap) with their multi-billion dollar fines.

Re: CS career megathread / AMA

I've literally never met somebody who thinks it's easy to get hired at Google or that a Google employee doesn't make good money. If somebody knows about MBB's legendary case interviewing, then they also probably know about how selective FB and Google are. And if anything, I would think that the CS b...

Re: CS career megathread / AMA

FB and Google are definitely comparable in prestige to MBB (or GS/MS/JPM or PJT/Evercore or KKR/Blackstone/Apollo)

And FB/Google > MBB once you factor in on-hire stock and refreshers for total comp (plus FB's stock is about to 🚀)

Re: CS career megathread / AMA

Given that this is the CS thread, does Big4 in this context mean EY/PWC/KPMG/Deloitte or the big tech companies? Sorry for the stupid question. I'm somewhat interested in transitioning into CS myself at some point in my career (though probably not immediately). Typically refers to the large-cap tec...

Good game, well predicted.

My cockiness did me in this year, but I will train harder for the next admissions season. See you in 2019.

Tough competition this year.

I improved my prognostication score by one point and fell 5 spots in the rankings:

Math majors also outperform English majors on the LSAT. According to LSAC, the average LSAT score for an English major is 154, while the average LSAT score for a math major is 162.

(1) Dumb question, but how do I view articles on the main page? Is there a page where all the articles and outline banks are displayed? (2) Really cool to read Dean Z's candid responses on the GRE. I've been writing a GRE guide and have been making similar statements over the past few months with re...

Re: impact of GRE on law school admissions and scholarships

Sure, the GRE provided some wiggle room for the AdCom but they're still not going to accept candidates if they didn't have the WE & proven their leadership. Don't know what b-school you went to but surely you must understand this. Unless you're actually trying to argue that 20 extra points on a sta...

Re: impact of GRE on law school admissions and scholarships

Not having to report GRE scores is such a huge advantage for early-adopter schools to potentially massage entering-class statistics and game law school rankings. This doesn't discount your point, but USNews claims they're factoring GRE scores into their rankings. For both law schools and business s...

Re: impact of GRE on law school admissions and scholarships

Like the GRE vs. LSAT, the GRE vs. GMAT distinction worked for b-school admissions for a while (might still be working?) since people could sneak in with lower GRE scores relative to GMAT takers. Not having to report GRE scores is such a huge advantage for early-adopter schools to potentially massa...

Re: impact of GRE on law school admissions and scholarships

I feel really strongly that with all the uncertainty, we're in the golden era of potentially backdooring would-be reverse splitters into top law schools via the GRE. Like the GRE vs. LSAT, the GRE vs. GMAT distinction worked for b-school admissions for a while (might still be working?) since people ...
