Re: Tax Llm without accounting degree?

Hey all, I am thinking about pursuing a tax llm at NYU/Georgetown next year. I am comfortable with working at a Big 4 after graduation, and even prefer that option to big law. I have a generic liberal arts degree though, and I am concerned that Big 4 firms won't want to interview someone without an...

Re: CS career megathread / AMA

i've been putting in a few hours everyday for the last month, still less than what i'd have liked. have the onsite for the startup this week, my first in this search. hope it'd get the juices flowing. Good luck dude I'd be interested in reading a recap if you have time. Always thought suralin's ons...

Re: CS career megathread / AMA

what kind/field of startup that was? vc funded, if so which round? New media company that had $12.5 million in seed revenue and was about a year from revenue. Title would have been head of business operations. One of those rare new startups with no tech involved. Nice, how's the company doing today?

Re: CS career megathread / AMA

Wasn't it the same way last summer too? Probably a combo of many on-topic posters not making the migration from TLS and June/July kinda being dead months for applications since apps aren't open yet. But yeah, there should still be an LSAT study/waiter group with the test coming up in two weeks. Or s...

Re: CS career megathread / AMA

jingo, good to see you here, i think i recall you from the lsat forum the old one. what kind of work you do now? Congrats on the onsite! I was doing corporate work at a V10 and I left as a junior to go to a <100 attorney firm. It was definitely a great switch, but being a lawyer isn't the best job ...

Re: Is a 1 month 1L firm summer internship too short?

That is a bit short, but I don't think firms are going to "audit" you over it. Do you know whats a good min weeks? Obviously I dont think this will become a standard 10-12 week 6-7 is solid in my view. One of my summer internships when I split summers required me to do a minimum 6 weeks. Would be h...

Re: Is a 1 month 1L firm summer internship too short?

Just write "Summer 2019.” Nobody will know whether you did 4 weeks or 12 weeks at the firm. If you get asked about length of employment specifically in an interview (which you won't), you can say you worked there June and July. But nobody cares whether you did 1 month, 2 months, or 3 months. Firms a...

really appreciate the super in-depth analysis <3 yeah generally strongly agree that this is exactly the kind of risk/reward play i'm in a good position to take advantage of, and also agree that the downside is relatively capped and there's potentially a ton of upside. i've been getting some skeptic...

I'm guessing IBM, Oracle, HP, Dell/EMC, etc? And that's really good insight into SWE vs. DE. I knew a little bit about the PM and UX distinction as compared to SWEs from blind but had no idea about the SWE/DE split. Interviewing for TC bidding war purposes makes a ton of sense. yes about the bolded...

What's the reasoning behind the SWE vs. DE comp like that from a company perspective? I would think that data engineers and data scientists add similar value as software engineers do.

You check all the boxes (good grades, great tax grades, demonstrated interest in tax), so I think you're close to a lock at both.

Looking forward to FB being the recipient of a series of multi billion dollar fines related to the GDPR. Should do wonders for their stock.
Yeah, the EU really crippled Google ($700B market cap) with their multi-billion dollar fines.

Re: CS career megathread / AMA

I've literally never met somebody who thinks it's easy to get hired at Google or that a Google employee doesn't make good money. If somebody knows about MBB's legendary case interviewing, then they also probably know about how selective FB and Google are. And if anything, I would think that the CS b...
