Re: Helping an Old Attorney Who is Deficient

yeah do everything by email and document

don't pop by their office and go "hey could you send me X?". He'll go "sure thing" and then pretend the whole thing never happened.

I have 0 experience with “networking” via LinkedIn, but my gut reaction is that there is nothing you can do to milk anything of value out of the group.

The firm will have a travel agent that books everything for you.

Some firms reimburse.

I'd rather do consumer class action than securities lit any day.

I'd also rather eat used heroin needles than do securities lit any day, so I guess that's not saying much.

I wouldn't be surprised if the move to 190k made many traditionally 100% offer firms become, well, no longer 100% offer firms.

Don't discount federal magistrate clerkships. Many district clerkships are full, but I don't know about magistrates.

I want to be a judge, seems chill
The fed judge I interned for never left before 7pm usually, she was busy as hell.

She prob doesn’t work weekends idk and it’s not like she ever has to pull biglaw all nighters but it’s not chill 9-5, more like consistent 8-7 5 days a week.

Re: Pre-L, Thinks Likes Lit, What Next?

Easy to do! Also, re something you deleted - OP, I don't know that us v. them and winners/losers is going to be the best way to frame your interest in litigation, mostly because practicing lawyers hate opposing counsel who go too far in this direction. Why should I avoid suggesting that a firm’s op...

Any Boies associates wanna weigh in anon about how associates are responding to the lack of a raise? Or have they matched? There's a lot of drama about WilmerHale on TLS but I'm more surprised by Boies not matching.

I don’t have a horse in this race but aren’t you in patent pros? Patent pros is probably dying but that doesn’t mean patent lit is. Patent pros was never that profitable and companies have always hated paying for patent pros since the beginning of time.

Re: Legal Research Jobs

Patent lit is a relatively young, growing, and very quickly changing area of law so that can be interesting. A huge portion of “landmark” SCOTUS cases are post 2010. Almost all are post 2000. I took patent law it was really interesting. A couple going back to the 60’s, but those cases are like the P...

Re: Jones day’s black box

The problems at jones day and other biglaw firms that have reputations like that aren't caused by the associates, so associates being normal isn't relevant. Culture is mostly dictated by partners. If Jones Day is your only offer then I guess you don't have too much of a choice, but if you're picking...

I was under an assumption they were one-time things. Firms would be giving two separate bonuses a year?
