Theoretically, but it's tough to do/unlikely (have to get picked in a lottery or something once all the 1Ls who want a spot get one). And you can't do it with your s/o.motherofdragons wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 2:04 pmIs it possible to live in Gerwitz for all 3 years?
Anyone else moved to GULC with their significant others?

Re: GULC students & grads taking questions
lol that's not the place to go. I ended up with at least one per class via some combo of peer advisor, 2/3Ls I met through student orgs, and the outline bank. I don't recall if I asked anyone for outlines, but I definitely didn't ask for "A" outlines or anything (bc who does that), but IME that's us...

Re: GULC students & grads taking questions
IIRC on average the average GULC hire's GPA is like .1 higher for firms' DC offices vs NYC (so the average GULC hire at X firm's DC office has a 3.5 but only a 3.4 in NY). That's a big generalization. The bigger issue is just that there's so many fewer spots in DC.

Re: GULC students & grads taking questions
Money was no object to me (I was PSLF/LRAP bound), so I can't give an informed answer on the money thing. At any rate that's just a personal choice - you can run the numbers and make a calculation to your own personal debt/risk tolerance. I'm not a biglaw guy, but I'm pretty confident that unless yo...

Re: GULC students & grads taking questions
If you have a realistic gov/PI ambition you should be able to do it (though not necessarily the *fancy* version of it) from GULC if you are strategic and work hard. I think that advice probably holds true for big law as well, although I wouldn't feel comfortable choosing GULC for big law over any T1...

Re: GULC students & grads taking questions
What should we wear for orientation? Short and flip-flops? Ideally. Does anyone drive to school? Thinking of driving my car from CA to DC and commute to school. I'll be living with my partner so I won't be staying in the dorms. Pretty sure this has been asked an answered on here. It's doable if you...

Re: GULC students & grads taking questions
Do the JD and LLM students interact very often? For example, I'd really like to play some intramurals this year (particularly the UVA softball tourney), but the LLM class doesn't come off as having tons of people looking to play. If you're a JD student whether or not you interact with LLMs will dep...

Re: GULC students & grads taking questions
Depends on the exam. You avoid the stress and boredom of all the in-class exam rigamarole, so that's nice. On the other hand, a lot of profs will be like "I gave you 8 hours but this is really a 3 hour exam." You can bet you will be working nonstop for 8 hours. I didn't find either to be better or w...

IIRC I think each *class* (e.g. Property) is released as a batch (all sections), but they drop at different times.
