Re: WTO+Covid

@Blendedunicorn: thank you! this explains so much. I was so focused on the Biden admin, that I forgot about the dark time before und repressed the fact, that Trump was president even in a little part of 2021 Also forgot totally about that EO, since it's relevance was questioned back then. But now i...

I would reapply. It is tough to wait another year, but I think it’s best. I don’t think you can do worse next year.

Those are strong stats. Throw your hat in the ring and see what happens. Don’t apply for just the T6, though.

P.S. Don’t apply to Notre Dame. See previously linked thread.

I would apply broadly. Don’t limit yourself to just these lit boutiques.

Re: Serving in Army Reserves during law school?? Impact on admissions?

Did you make a decision, OP? If anyone is thinking of doing something similar, I would recommend planning to plan your life around the Army Reserve rather than vice versa. Two days a month is just advertising. The demands of the military can come randomly and without much control on your end. You ca...

Re: CUNY Law vs New York Law School

I didn’t know that law school part-time was so relatively cheap. Would you be in debt after LS? How sure are you that law degree will lead to promotion? How do you know this? I’m not sure what my financial situation will be after law school, but being a lawyer will lead to promotion for me at my cu...

Thanks for you insight, Clamence. I’ve never worked as a PD, but I’ve had lots of experience working with PDs as opposing counsel.

I probably have less insight than you since you at least interned and full-time clerked.

Re: How do local prosecutors and PDs handle so many cases at one time?

Hopefully some of the PDs here will jump in. I'm no longer working at a PD office. But, I imagine most counties are experiencing similar struggles. The county I worked in was unable to set cases for trial due to social distancing requirements and the physical space of the courtrooms, but the county...

Re: I'm a Public Defender AMA

Just got hired as a PD. I’m going to be thrown into the fire of misdemeanors. I know much of this varies by state and even county, but is there anything you wish you knew before starting? Anything to make the work easier? Whether it’s organizational, mental, legal, or what have you. Do you have pri...

Re: How do local prosecutors and PDs handle so many cases at one time?

The horizontal representation definitely sounds like a good way to make the work a little more manageable. Never thought of that as a benefit to horizontal representation. I read this article, and it made me wonder how many other PD offices are going through similar struggles: https://www.latimes.co...

Re: Has Covid-19 impacted PI/Gov hiring or am I just a loser?

I don’t know if and to what extent COVID is affecting current PI/gov hiring, but I presume hiring is being affected. I would look into jobs other than fellowships and honors. Are there some agencies that you might be interested in that do regular entry-level hiring, such as prosecutors’ offices? Hav...

Sure, I mean those as examples of shortcuts. Also:
Not prepping witnesses as much, relying on just police reports instead of speaking with witnesses yourself, etc.

Re: "Why did you do a big law internship your 2L summer?""

unless you get an interviewer who likes to be adversarial on purpose I had an interview today where they were pretty judgmental about it lol. That’s crazy to me. I think being so judgmental also disadvantages people who are not independently wealthy. Some law students can’t afford to pass up a 2L S...

I had no idea about the FFEL issue. Well, time to triple-check with FSA.
If you've ever submitted an employment verification to Fed Loan, then that would have caught this. A lot of folks never submitted those forms before the 10 year mark.
Good to know. Thanks .

How do local prosecutors and PDs handle so many cases at one time?

I have always wondered how local prosecutors and public defenders handle such a high number of criminal cases at one time while still fulfilling their ethical and legal duties. Especially compared to their federal counterparts. Is it because of the nature of the cases? The amount of time you prepare...
