Re: Human rights / international public law firms ? Salaries?

Hi! I am a 1L in a T14 I wondered if there is any way to practice human rights or international public law upon graduation while making nearly as much as in big law? *need to pay off these debts* What are the top firms in the practice of Human rights and/or International public law? My question mig...

Re: Careers in legal aid

Hi all! Circling back to Dickinson Law, you think I'd have a good shot at legal aid in Philly? I think I would enjoy living there. My mom was raised there, so she's excited about the prospect. I'm not seeing a whole lot of Dickinson Law representation in PA legal aid on LinkedIn. There are a few Di...

I noticed a few people posting links but it won't let me do so. Do we have to get permission first or is there a special method ?
Newly registered users have to accrue 10 posts before they can, yeah. Looks like you should be able to now?

Re: Please give me feedback on my personal statement

Honestly, the statement looks like it's in great shape to me. It's a little long yet well-written, an interesting read, and does all the things a personal statement is traditionally supposed to do. "Global constitutionalism, national security law, and comparative constitutionalism" aren't real-world...

Should I just go ahead and post it in the replies, Im still new to this forum. Go for it! Usually you're much more likely to get feedback on a statement by...

Re: Personal Statement

You can always post it here anonymously, and then edit to delete it later. If you ask people not to quote it they won't (under pain of mod enforcement). However, it's worth saying that personal statements tend to have only marginal impact on applications. The best essay in the world isn't going to ...

I am starting to make one myself to document but if anyone has one made already it would be greatly appreciated! There are a f...

Re: ACCEPT V20 OFFER OR 3L HIRING??

^ yeah, echoing BU I would accept the offer and look for other jobs later, but a lot depends on your risk tolerance and goals and finances. for many people spending 3L without a firm offer of employment is super stressful, and can put you in the position of taking a job you never would’ve sought out...

most big law partners are also pretty conservative, if not necessarily to the degree of being trump voters (though a lot of them were)

Re: Do a large amount of plaintiff’s lawyers tend to be conservative?

rich people tend to be extremely conservative, and rich white people in particular. is it possible your sample disproportionately includes wealthy and successful plaintiff/defense attorneys, and not the struggling or less-than-rich ones? also the majority of white voters vote republican in general s...

Re: Best way to turn down an accepted offer for new offer?

It sucks to have to do it, and may temporarily burn some bridges with that the reneged company's hiring department. But that's also just how it goes sometimes in the modern job market. I would just state as diplomatically as possible you've received an offer you can't turn down, thank them and move ...

Re: How to buy more time to respond to an inhouse gig offer?

You can probably just ask. I’m not sure about the standard for in-house, but for most job offers 2 weeks is an entirely appropriate amount of time to request to consider. And you only need 1.

Re: SCOTUS and Other Big Cases

I completely missed the Fulton decision, somehow. Fuck this court. Can someone explain to me how Fulton does not lead to a bizarro world where any law that has any discretion built for some type of hypothetical case will no longer apply to anyone who pretends to be a member of a “religion”? That is...

Maybe my firm was weird in that it was not uncommon for people to be staffed on one all-consuming matter for months, a year, or even years at a time.

Re: Milbank Does it Again: NY to $200k

If law firms cut hours requirements down to, like, 1600/year, cut pay proportionally, and just hired more attorneys, I'm pretty sure that would solve a lot of problems about people quitting. Overhead not a big deal with new WFH paradigm anyway. I have trouble imagining a world in which this actuall...

also obligatory figure out if you're in an auto pass state/even if you're not dedicate 90%+ of your time to the multiple choice question prep/remember that you can score passing points on essays by entirely making up the law so long as you apply the made up law. the efficacy of this strategy cannot...

is 1500 billable hours requirement a lot or not a lot? (NOT biglaw)

I'm switching to private practice and that's my firm's requirement.

It seems... manageable?
Unthinkably low for biglaw. No idea elsewhere. Sounds manageable to me.
