Re: Reviewing Law Review (Journals, How to get them, What to expect, etc.)

Thanks. 4. Know that someone has to do it, and may not want to have to answer to others on the work they do for the journal (also see #2 above). 5. May alleviate some of the other mundane tasks they'd otherwise have to do (such as a limit on cite checks, etc.). Does everyone stay on as a staffer for...

Re: Reviewing Law Review (Journals, How to get them, What to expect, etc.)

Why do people do it then lol? Usually only if their goal is academia?

Does being on a journal's managing board help with clerkships?

Re: Dropping Out and Reapplying

not what I was talking about Well, do you want to share what you were talking about? You're on an anonymous online forum. My money's on a break-up. lol no Super-helpful. It's hard to believe that you have problems with drug use. this is a stupid and overly judgmental post Agreed.

Why Kirkland so low? Also "115", "192", etc as FFB? I thought you guys get 50 bids every year?

Re: Columbia 2019 EIP Bid List Advice/Discussion

Yeah. So it's not clear whether Gibson means "you only get one interview for both LA and OC" or "you get one interview overall and you can just tell us which offices". White & Case at least makes this explicit, though they should also have only one entry. I guess W&C wants to send enough people to h...

Re: Columbia 2019 EIP Bid List Advice/Discussion

Yeah, I don't get the "no multiple interviews" thing insofar as Gibson has like 5 entries (one for SoCal, one for NY, one for TX, etc). The TX entry has multiple options, the SoCal 2 (LA and OC). If they want you to interview at just one, why not just have one and put all cities under one, like Alst...

Billable Hours Q

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but since 40 hours a week times 52 weeks in a year comes out to 2080 hours of work, why is it such a big deal whether a firm has a 2100 or 2200 billable hour requirement in order to get a bonus? Is there really that much time at work that isn't billable? Do meetings ...

Re: Columbia 2019 EIP Bid List Advice/Discussion

Thanks for the advice, guys. I had no idea the FFB could be that volatile. O'Melveny is too selective. I am keeping WilmerHale and Gibson LA high because I really want to make sure I can at least shoot my shot at them and I think the number of people from Columbia trying for LA keeps increasing, so ...

Columbia 2019 EIP Bid List Advice/Discussion

Thought I'd start this--I apologize if there is already a thread to use or I shouldn't start a new one for any reason. I am interested in targeting litigation in LA--however, given that there are a limited number of spots in LA, I am starting to realize LA might be too competitive for me. I lack the...

I would be willing to pay $5 for your book, but I don't have a Kindle.

Any other book recommendations from anyone?

Re: How to find note topics

Oh really? That's a relief.

In terms of the process of asking professors, do you just go one by one in order of your preference until one of them is like "yeah, I can supervise your note, I have these topics..."? Should I expect some of them to want writing samples?

How to find note topics

Hi,

I am a 1L interested in writing a note. I have some nascent and vague topic ideas. But mostly I feel lost and confused about how I am supposed to find a topic. I guess I should start by reading a bunch of published notes, right?
