Re: NYU Students/Grads Taking Questions

Any insights on Nueborne or Gillette? Also is it a decent strategy to prioritize black letter law classes over P/F lawyering?

Re: 2018-2019 SEO Applicants

So I was looking at my application on the portal. And I noticed that if you click on 'preview' and then look under 'tasks,' that there is an 'application stage,' a 'post interview stage,' and a 'last enrollment stage.' My 'last enrollment stage' is marked incomplete, and there's no way for me to up...

Re: 2018-2019 SEO Applicants

Anyone else going to get nooo work done this week, as we anxiously wait for an offer (or lack thereof). 😭 I already told my boss just in case. I'm pretty much checked out from work either way at this point lol. Hoping for the best but also trying to remain calm and patient. I saw that last year NY ...

Re: Law school in NYC- living expenses

Bumping this because I'd love to know as well, especially since I'm still in sticker shock at rental costs. Would love to hear a rough estimate of what some of you pay, what that gets you, and where you are located (all within your levels of comfort!)

Re: 2018-2019 SEO Applicants

Sent in my seat deposit yesterday. Although I interviewed late, I'm hoping that will still expedite my decision. Anyone know if there was a wave of denials/acceptances? Also for any SEO alums on this forum, can you talk about the process of finding housing and coordinating all the necessary logistic...

Re: Columbia Law School Class of 2022 Applicants

I am willing to add as anecdotal data that they did not match my offers from peer schools. They did, however, get within 60k. Although their final offer was over 3x their initial offer, I am unwilling to call that large a difference between peers "close". Others might disagree.. I'm in the fortunat...

Does Columbia negotiate/ can anyone tell me which schools they'll consider competing offers from and whether or not they were matched or just increased? Yes. Re: NYU Students/Grads Taking Questions

I never used a broker in NYC, I know they're helpful especially if you're on a time crunch, but you can absolutely find a place without one. I think unfortunately 80x is more common than 40x, but that would be your combined income. You can also have a guarantor if you absolutely need one (although ...

Re: NYU VS COLUMBIA (but different than the other times)

Do you have time to visit both schools again? Maybe see if NYU can set you up with a current RTK scholar and ask about their experience in the program. I'd say NYU since the public interest culture is so much stronger there, but I'm definitely biased as an NYU alum (and my fiance is a CLS grad who ...

Re: NYU VS COLUMBIA (but different than the other times)

FWIW, I haven't heard raving reviews about the programmatic aspect from my RTK friends, but that's a small sample size. Also, if you're trying to minimize debt, COL around Columbia is cheaper to the tune of $5k+ per year. This and the conflicting anecdote below this post are what really make things...

Re: NYU VS COLUMBIA (but different than the other times)

I guess I want to hear more about the inconsistency in your post: If your long-term goal involves high-level PI of the kind that the RTK program sets you up for, why was Columbia your dream school? I didn't even know the Root existed for a lot of my law school application process! I always knew I w...

NYU VS COLUMBIA (but different than the other times)

Please help! I'm in the fortunate, but terribly conflicting position of choosing between the Root Tilden-Kern at NYU and a matching unnamed full scholarship at Columbia. I know that I want the majority of my career to be spent doing public interest work. It is what drove me to apply to law school. T...

Would it matter if OP is deciding between named vs unnamed scholarships? I would think that if they have a named scholarship from any of the aforementioned schools, as opposed to just money, that the named scholarship would be worth slightly more. Not sure if that's true or not, just something to th...

Re: Public Interest Megathread for T14s (employment data, resources, testimonials)

It's a hard question to answer. The only ideal path is trying to get a Skadden fellowship and getting your foot in the door. If not, then two years clerking for district court and COA and then trying to go straight to impact lit is common, but you may end up at a firm for a bit. Sure there's a ton ...
