Re: Name Drop

It's not unethical to say you talked to someone. I just wouldn't stretch it out to more than it is, because someone will probably ask them if they know you, and if they don't remember, that's not gonna help your application. I see nothing wrong with saying you talked to so-and-so and were intereste...

Re: V5 v V10 v V40-60 (3L)

It seems like the V10 would be the right choice, it being in your home market and having a better COL. I have a guess at which firm it might be, market not so much. If you want to PM me, feel free to do so (though I rarely post on here due to the forum kinda being slow in general...) Where would the...

Re: Los Angeles Market Associate Taking Questions

This actually sounds great.....WAY different than what others have said about K&E (including the LA office), but the facetime requirement (or lack thereof) is actually quite surprising. I'm looking into corporate as my main interest, and if you would be willing to talk to me separately via PM (sinc...

Re: Los Angeles Market Associate Taking Questions

How would you rank the QoL and work (in terms of interest) from the following firms (LA/CC corporate)? Latham, Skadden, Milbank, Kirkland, OMM, S&C, GDC Not sure what you mean by "work (in terms of interest)" From what I know: Latham: I have heard that facetime is generally pretty low. There are th...

Re: London Big Law Associates

I lateralled back to the states after three years in London. US work in London is mainly Cap Markets, and high yield debt in particular. K&E, Latham, Cravath, Ropes, A&O, Links, Freshfields, Clifford Chance, Shearman and Milbank (and I'm sure others that I'm forgetting) all have fairly robust cap m...

Re: Berkeley C/O 2021

Hey do we know when we might get more info on orientation/next steps? I've been tracking stuff on CalCentral but am curious to know when, for instance, this page--https://www.law.berkeley.edu/admitted-students-jd/orientation-new/--will be updated. Also, is anyone else getting nervous about housing?...

IF It has good reviews then great. Those guys are just known for building shitty buildings and not maintaining well. Maybe they’ve turned a new leaf.
In a similar vein, what would you say are ballpark “normal” rent prices in each area (for studios and 1BR)?

Re: Los Angeles Market Associate Taking Questions

Is it bad/not recommended that one bid both the LA (DT) and CC offices of the same firm? Does it look as if someone is not "committed"/doesn't know what they want when they do so? I ask because I wouldn't mind working at either location for certain firms but wouldn't want to look wishy-washy.

Re: Berkeley/Boalt Students and Graduates Taking Questions

Hmm...I've been spoiled in that I haven't needed public transport for a good majority of my life, so I'm going to assume that my tolerance for it will be quite low (esp 1hr+ commute one-way). I guess the best thing to hope for is a paid position in SF while finding a place to sublet and eating the ...

Re: Berkeley/Boalt Students and Graduates Taking Questions

How many people (anecdotal of course) usually try to write on to CLR their 1L year percentage-wise? I would assume its somewhat less competitive than other schools because all of the secondary journals are open to all students who are interested, as opposed to say UVA's system of a universal write-...

Re: The Right Start to Law School

Read Getting to Maybe, and that's about it. Just relax and study hard once it starts. While decent advice, Getting to Maybe is often counterproductive. Context of law school exams is intensely important, and Getting to Maybe covers none of that. Kind of thought this was the case...even during UVA's...

Re: Help please - Levy v. Dillard v. near-full at Northwestern (180)

Oh jeez, what a great conundrum to have! I think this one boils down to personal preference, especially since your two target markets favor separate schools (I'd say Dillard/UVA for DC and NU for Chi-town) but honestly as others have pointed out, the NU-to-Chi thing is mostly self-selection and you'...

If any Berkeley Law students have 1L outlines (contracts, torts, crim law, con law) that would be highly appreciated! I'm seconding the Manville question: If the lease is a required 12-months, what do occupants typically do about their summers if subletting isn't an option? Hey guys! I didn't write a Why Berkeley. I submitted early December and haven't heard anything since. The longer I wait, the more I realized how badly I want to go to Berkeley, but I just don't know that I can articulate those reasons in an essay format well.
