Re: Trusts & Estates

Good to know. I'm in PI now so the cutthroat aspect of practice isn't new to me unfortunately.

Re: Trusts & Estates

That kinda mirrors my plan. I'm in a pretty well to do area, and grew up in one as well. Lots of friends in wealth management type jobs. I'm already brushing up on RE since my brother wants to refer me his closings. I'm actually gonna see if my law school will let me informally audit a class now tha...

The planning side is chill. The litigation side is probably worse than PI. It's domestic law with way higher monetary stakes.
I think I'd like to avoid litigation in general. I've had my fill.

Re: Trusts & Estates

Yeah I'm starting to plan for my exit from PI. Money is great and all but the grind of constant litigation is getting to be too much. I have lots of potential referral sources in T&E and from what I hear it's way less anxiety.

Re: Trusts & Estates

If someone wants to start learning more about T&E practice, specifically at the small/solo firm level, any thoughts on where to start? Just seek out state-specific practice guides? I didn't actually take T&E in school, wonder if there is any way I can get in on a virtual class or something.

Re: Criminal Defense

Haven’t seen a lot action in here recently. How is everyone ? I'm getting the solo practice itch again. How much did you have saved before you took the plunge? Or did you know you work have the work to cover overhead right off the bat? Wife works and has our health insurance covered but she doesn't...

Re: Ambulance Chasing (PI)

Hey Eazy, thanks for answering all these questions. How are things going in the PI world? I'm the Anon from above, hating biglaw and dreaming of dollar signs in PI. Are you happy with the field? Still hustling for referrals? It's good! I'm now getting a bonus on every case I resolve (settle), 1-3% ...

Re: What was your first law job/salary & where are you now?

1. The local TTT 2. 2016 3. Some dumpster fire of a small firm run by a lunatic. I quit before I was even admitted but I believe it was $55k 4. Still chasing ambulances, 83k + large bonus on my own cases (this adds up big) + smaller percentage of every case I settle (this adds up to "getting Hulu wi...

Re: Senior Associate

I thought Esq was just honorific, so I always put Esq for other attorneys (acknowledging that we suffer together) but never after my own name.

This one jerkoff in my jx puts J.D. and Esq and everyone laughs about it

Re: Ambulance Chasing (PI)

I've done some lead buying but it's expensive - my firm does a ton of it (I'm not a solo). I get most of my clients through word of mouth. More people that know what I do, the better. I also network a lot with doctors and attorneys in complimentary practice areas. Got it. Seems like most successful...

Re: Ambulance Chasing (PI)

A little over a month in and I’m enjoying my new job so far. The work environment is completely different because the people working here don’t hate it despite being pretty busy with large dockets. There are some negatives but my life has improved so much overall since leaving my previous firm that...

Re: Ambulance Chasing (PI)

I'm about to make the switch from Plaintiff's PI to field counsel for a big carrier. Easy's job sounds a lot better than my current job. High-volume firm with shitty support staff and a lunatic boss. I've been working from 8:45/9ish to 6:45/7ish for almost a year now out of law school with shit pay...

Re: Ambulance Chasing (PI)

Nothing good recently KF - frankly, been on a bit of a rut as far as new cases (personally, not firm-wide). It's very frustrating. Ran into a former co-worker who went to the other side for Allstate. For all the awful shit I hear about working ID, he seemed pretty happy - decent pay, easy hours, goo...

Re: Ambulance Chasing (PI)

From the info you have, it doesn't sound like the injuries were anything too significant, so $50k+ sounds like a huge win. My guess is that there was some kind of large lien related to medical treatment, but no way to know for sure. Can you explain to me how the large medical lien plays into the se...

Re: Ambulance Chasing (PI)

Dollar-a-day... never heard of that policy but it sounds shitty. I have the 250/500 UM/UIM because I don’t want to have to rely on hoping the other guy is insured. I was rear ended last year. I don’t know what coverage levels the other driver had but it covered the $6k repair bill to the ass end of...
