Re: CLS vs GULC

"A large chunk of the people at T6 schools have wealthy parents who are willing and able to put them through law school, or at least help them out with rent money or an interest-free loan" Why did not I think of this? :) The debt is real! I tried to use a calculator I found on TLS and on a 5 year pl...

Re: CLS vs GULC

Thanks for the input! No issues working here. I will likely be at a law firm as I am interested in international trade law and transactional work. I should not have mentioned clerking. I assumed at some point people take their knowledge to a place where they can teach others even when they are still...

Re: GULC students & grads taking questions

Money was no object to me (I was PSLF/LRAP bound), so I can't give an informed answer on the money thing. At any rate that's just a personal choice - you can run the numbers and make a calculation to your own personal debt/risk tolerance. I'm not a biglaw guy, but I'm pretty confident that unless y...

Re: GULC students & grads taking questions

If you have a realistic gov/PI ambition you should be able to do it (though not necessarily the *fancy* version of it) from GULC if you are strategic and work hard. I think that advice probably holds true for big law as well, although I wouldn't feel comfortable choosing GULC for big law over any T...

Re: CLS vs GULC for international law

I don't think your question makes sense. International law isn't a single coherent practice area such that you could compare outcomes in the way you propose. Are you looking to do international commercial arbitration? Cross border transactional or corporate work? International human rights work, su...

Re: Law school in NYC- living expenses

New York is really really really fun. Yes, grad student housing is UAH; you'll have the option of prioritizing law school housing (which is I think only on 116th and 115th street super close to the law school, more expensive usually) or UAH (general grad housing, which I think spans 110th to 125th,...

Re: GULC students & grads taking questions

I appreciate your candor. Did you only feel at ease toward the end e.g. after passing the bar or were you able to get into internships you desired throughout law school? I have gotten the sense from students that they indeed felt a bit more pressure to perform at GT. I was shocked to see a few Asian...

Re: GULC students & grads taking questions

If you took money at GT over CCN, do you have any regrets? Do you feel any difference in the way either law firms or feds employers perceive GT vs. CCN applicants?

Re: Law school in NYC- living expenses

Everyone will tell you being a law student is terrible; it’s much, much, much less terrible being a law student in NYC. Hmmm I am curious as to why? Can you give more details please? Also, is graduate student housing at CLS part of UAH? I saw a decently sized studio on morning side street when I vi...

Re: Law school in NYC- living expenses

1) Anyone living in graduate students housing (2br apt) can share how big their room is? Also does it make a big difference in rent to move in with 3 people instead? 2) if you live off campus is it hard to qualify for housing in NYC as a student with excellent credit score but no current income? Do...

Re: GULC students & grads taking questions

Can you explain how the combined merit and need based financial aid packages work? Would summer employment reduce your aid? I am looking at the k150 opportunity scholarship. I can’t find the terms online and no clear answer from the school. I had a combined merit & need based package--the amount wa...

Law school in NYC- living expenses

Anyone attending NYU, CLS or other law schools in the big Apple. Do you live on or off campus? What is your rent and commute like? What are your living expenses and how do you keep your living expenses down?
Just curious how people are managing living and studying in NYC on a student budget.
