Re: 2019 TX 1L SA Thread

In terms of reception invites, is there any value to replying saying you cant make it? Some are scheduled during my finals and during times I wont be in texas I don't really think so. So many people are getting invited to these—I feel like sometimes I was invited to ones with firms I didn't even ap...

Re: Univ of Texas School of Law students / grads taking questions

What has the orientation schedule looked like in years past? Are there events on the weekend of orientation? I’m trying to decide if I need to turn down an invite on that Saturday. Leading up to orientation, there were a few optional events for parents or affinity groups and things like that and ma...

Re: Univ of Texas School of Law students / grads taking questions

Is the student sports pass worth it? It would be cool to go to a couple of games, but my understanding is that you can usually snag tickets the day of for a reasonable price, and I don't know if I would go to enough events to warrant paying $175 or whatever it is now. Yes, it is still 175! I know t...

Re: Univ of Texas School of Law students / grads taking questions

Do it just because you'll be asked what journal you're on/why you're not on a journal at OCI. Annoying, but it'll happen. Join TGOJEL because it's the easiest/least work and has the most open bars. Don't do TROL because they're lunatics with an inferiority complex (with they were TLR). TRESL is als...

Any gyms in the Hyde Park area y'all would recommend? Are the campus gyms overrun with undergrads?
the campus gyms are IMO. but lots of law students also seem to go. I used to go to 24 hour fitness near HEB on 41st before my apartment got a better gym. it's not bad

Re: Univ of Texas School of Law students / grads taking questions

I'll lightning round some questions. I am 100% confident in my decision to attend UT, but I am curious about a few things. 1. What do job prospects look like at median? The Biglaw+Fed clerk numbers look like they are pretty close to 45%, but I was told this weekend that this number could be higher ...

Re: Univ of Texas School of Law students / grads taking questions

I went apartment hunting after ASW, and I found two I really like: Triangle and Platform (East of 35 on MLK, about six minutes from the law school). Anyone have any intel on these two? I live at the Triangle! feel free to message me with any questions. I really like it and would recommend 100% desp...

It was there for an even number of years (10 I think) so I suspect it was a rent renegotiation that didn't work out.

Re: Univ of Texas School of Law students / grads taking questions

I'm in the opposite position: UT increased my offer and became far and away my best option, given my goals. I went ahead and pulled the trigger. My (and my spouse's) thought process has shifted away from where we might land, and we are beginning to research neighborhoods more thoroughly so we can b...

Does anyone have any insight on the non-trad experience at UT? I'd like to get to know people, but my tim...

Anyone else who's going to breakfast with the Dean - what are you wearing? The invite didn't say anything about a dress code. I went to UT for undergrad, and the few times I went to the Carillon I saw people dressed up pretty nice. Just not sure if this is like business or business casual. I dresse...

Corporate Governance is an easy A-/A with little to no work, no cold calling, and a bunch of dumb MBA kids to make your paper look a lot better than it actually is. thank you e-mails

I know the conventional TLS wisdom on thank you emails seemed to be that it could hurt you more than help you. doing a search on there, everyone seemed really against them. Does anyone have any insight on if that extends to PI jobs as well?

I don't know where TLR competitiveness fell, but here are some graduating GPAs for the various graduation honors (keep in mind that grades go up some after 1L): Honors Available Highest Honors (Top 1%) Chancellors (Top 16 students after 2L -- or is it after 3L fall?) High Honors (Top 5%) Order of t...
