Re: Hamilton + Darrow vs. Rest of T7-14
ETA: Scooped above. The US government cannot hire non-citizens in the continental US by law. That includes federal courts so clerking is out unless you can get one outside of the continental US. I’ve occasionally seen people want a clerkship so badly they took an unpaid fed clerkship to get around ...

Re: Hamilton + Darrow vs. Rest of T7-14
As someone who took it, I recommend Hamilton. There is no shot the lower COA and nominal stipend that Darrow comes with justifies taking it over Hammy given your goals. PM if you want more, unfiltered info.

Isn't the difference going to be more 90k+ given 2L SA?

Re: Lots of Fulls VS HYS
So I got 34k/year from Yale (I am assuming this will be the same for 2L as well) and I will probably be looking at about 170k in debt total. My parents will not really be helping, but they have offered to pay interest on the loans to keep them at principal until I graduate. I am interested in clerk...

Re: Lots of Fulls VS HYS
Ahh Lankhs we need to trade- I have the Ruby but am waiting anxiously to hear back from Yale (and assuming I won't hear anything good since I applied back in November). I guess the grass is always greener. Similar situation: Mordecai, Dillard, Ruby but debating between a full ride and Harvard or St...

I wonder if you could negotiate guaranteed tickets to Duke Basketball games. Then it's a clear winner.

Re: LSL c/o 2022 Applicants
How are we all doing? T-2 months till the deposit date for most schools. I'm leaning towards Yale right now but will be negotiating with Chicago soon. If I get a Ruby, it'll be a tough choice. Still waiting on YLS since Nov. Part of me is wishing for an acceptance as it is the ultimate dream school...

Something not mentioned yet is that a lot of your interests may/will require you to work outside of D.C. after law school.

Got my scholarship offer last night. Mid Jan. admit. $60k. Around both 75ths. Glad to have something, but I'm not holding my breath on a game-changing outcome from the negotiation. Guess this seals the deal for the Dillard!!! Dillard is amazing, and the culture of UVA is definitely something people...

Re: Harvard c/o 2022 Applicants
My god, they were cringeworthy to say the least. I'm kind of surprised a social-justice oriented school would publicly announce scholarships in which 5 out of 8 will exclusively (or disproportionately)be awarded to white males. Nothing necessarily wrong with those benefactors puting stipulations on...

Re: Harvard c/o 2022 Applicants
No disrespect, but the Harvard GCS scholarships are hilarious. Time to dig out those genealogical records. My god, they were cringeworthy to say the least. Re: NYU c/o 2022 Applicants
Do we have any idea how much leverage a Harvard acceptance offers for financial aid negotiations? I assume it could raise $ —> $$, but what about $$ —> $$$ or $$$ —> $$$$? At what point would it be an insult to NYU to try and increase a scholarship with H as your best bargaining chip? I think you w...

Re: Columbia: using cross-registration to gun for Kent/Stone?
Assuming one can write a convincing petition to count a non-law course toward their JD Since the course must be directly relevant to your legal training, I am doubtful someone could pull this off for more than one course. Also, there may be a requirement (such a passing a preliminary exam) to enrol...

Re: transfer to Harvard from Columbia or reapply next cycle?
The reason I think it's below 100 offers is that there are only 56 members of the entire student body at CLS with full or greater scholarships, which indicates 15-20 Hamiltons in any given year. The LSN data doesn't support the idea that hordes of people are turning down Hamiltons. The rate of peop...

Re: transfer to Harvard from Columbia or reapply next cycle?
Yeah, two Hammy recipients (and Y admits) with H dings reported on LSN. Bizarre. any idea approx how many hamiltons butlers each are awarded each cycle? I assume if you took the amount reported on LSN per cycle and divided that by an estimate of percentage of recipients who report on LSN you could ...

Re: Stanford Students & Grads Wasting Time, Maybe Taking a Question or Two
How accurate is stanford's estimated COA vs actual experience? Taking into account the all-in, debt financed cost of a school, LST is the most accurate based on my calculation: https://www.lstreports.com/schools/stanford/ For Stanford, I noticed that the COA is based on a very generous living arran...

Re: What would you pay for Harvard? Should I even be considering it?
My parents are surprisingly aware of the realities of a legal education. They are older, and mainly want to see me graduate and start a family while they are still alive. Because of this, their main worry is me graduating with a suffocating-amount of debt and therefore being unable to do these thin...

I received a book in the mail today from the admissions team. Has anyone else gotten one? I'm curious if they sent everyone the same book or if they sent people different ones. Mine is on a topic I'm interested in, but it's not directly tied to the type of law I mentioned on my application and in m...

I'm going to guess they got a large merit scholarship while also demonstrating significant need so the total package exceeded tuition cost.g01denb3ar wrote: ↑Tue Jan 22, 2019 2:32 pmThere is one person listed on Columbia's 509 report that received greater than full tuition. Re: HYS v Hamilton (no help from family)
HLS's max aid is around $46k per year. Take the Hamilton. Unless finances are absolutely not and never going to be a concern (like, one's family is so wealthy that even sticker at Harvard would be nbd), a person would be an idiot to turn down the Hamilton. Such a nontrivial fuck up to pass on a Ham...
