Re: HLS ($$) vs. UVA ($$$)
Additional 70k is half a year setback financially? How did you come up with that math? It translates to more like 2 solid additional years of biglaw. 70k, factoring in interest, will be closer to 100k by the time you pay off, and my guess would be that most biglaw junior associates are able to cont...

Re: HLS ($$) vs. UVA ($$$)
I’d take Harvard in a heartbeat. Suppose you take Harvard over UVA. Worst case scenario: You end up with the same job as your UVA self, but you’re half a year behind financially Best case scenario: You end up at the World Bank or doing international diplomacy while your UVA self is stuck with BL and...

Re: UChicago Ruby vs. Harvard vs. Columbia Hamilton vs. USC Rothman
First, I would drop the Rothman out of consideration. Even though the Rothman may be pretty much ideal for your short-short-term goals, you will be able to place into a similar-level SoCal firm out of H, Chi, or CLS, and will have the additional long-term benefit of a much more prestigious name in a...

Dang, sorry Barry. I hope you’re happy with your UVA offer. Otherwise, no shame in reapplying next year. I’m sure there will be plenty of people here and elsewhere who would be happy to procide feedback on your materials if you choose to apply again.

Re: Cornell ($) v USC ($$$) for Entertainment Law
Damn I totally missed the work visa required part. I would do a lot of research into how plausible securing one is in non-big entertainment-adjacent law (ie if you went to USC) vs your comfort with non-entertainment big law (ie if you went to Cornell). I would switch my vote to Cornell because I thi...

Re: Cornell ($) v USC ($$$) for Entertainment Law
I voted USC. It gives you a better chance at entertainment law than Cornell for a lower price, but I imagine it’s still a risky goal from USC with $120k in debt. I honestly have no idea how localized and ties-sensitive entertainment law is, so take this entire paragraph with salt, but my guess is th...

Re: Which would you choose?
If you already got into Columbia and Chicago and didn't get Hamilton or Ruby, then you're not getting it. This is def true for the Hamilton, I believe it is also the case for the Ruby. I would think it should be between UVA and NYU (maybe Mich should stay in play too, but simplify your life by taki...

Re: Which would you choose?
Wow, congrats! I think NYU and UVA are your best options. NYU is not as much of a DC/CA feeder as Mich/Duke/UVA, but the biggest prestige-PI feeder among your options and obviously a huge NY-feeder. UVA is your biggest DC feeder and biggest fed-gov feeder. Assuming you like the two schools equally, ...

Re: Michigan Students and Grads Taking Questions
Old West Side or Kerrytown would probably make sense for you guys, location-wise if the bio building is where I think it is. I don't know much about the Burns Park area but I think that would work fine too. $1600-1800 seems very high for a 1BR, but fine for a 2BR. You'll want to sign a lease sooner...

Re: UVA $$ vs WUSTL $$$$
I wonder if, even if WUSTL doesn’t recruit PI students more than normal, its generosity with scholarship money makes PI student yield higher than normal (based on their ABA charts, that doesn’t seem to be the case though). Anyway, I think if you actively want to become a PD straight out of school, W...

Re: Michigan Students and Grads Taking Questions
Housing questions: Best neighborhoods to look at? Best complexes/property managers to look at? Best websites to look for apartments? Reasonable price range for 1-2 BR, 1 BA for a couple and a cat? When we need to be looking to signing a lease? Right now we're looking at Burns Park and the Old West S...

Re: Duke it out: Duke $$$$ vs. Virginia $$$$ vs. Penn $$$$ vs. H
I think you can’t really go wrong between Virginia Duke and Penn here. H is a little more iffy—if you had more specific and 100% confident goals where H would help a lot it’d be closer, but your more general and flexible goals seem very attainable from the T14. My impression is that Virginia enjoys ...

Re: Emory's Woodruff vs T6
I think if you're absolutely 100% dedicated to PI, you should look at which T6 has the best LRAP program. The best debt is no debt, yes, but the difference in outcomes between T6 vs. Emory is large enough IMO that T6 on LRAP beats Emory for free (or COL?). See here for LRAP/IBR/PSLF info: https://ww...

Re: Spivey Consulting Q&A with Adcoms from Yale, Harvard, Penn, Chicago etc.
Hi Spivey! How important would you say it is to submit three letters of rec to Michigan? They’re the only school I’m applying to that asks for three, and I only have two recommenders thus far, but I am very interested in attending. http://www.law.umich.edu/prospectivestudents/admissions/applyingtomi...

Re: LSL c/o 2022 Applicants
You guys know how resume advice is big on measurables and accomplishments, rather than general responsibilities? Would you say that's true for law school resumes too, or should general responsibilities take a larger role? E.g. "managed social media pages" vs. "grew social media following by x%" Harv...
