Re: Texas ($$) vs. Duke/NU ($$ish) vs. NYU ($)

I'm thinking that Texas will get you your goals just fine, especially if you're okay with biglaw for a little bit. Duke will too, obviously. Have you visited Durham?

Re: "I'm taking my talents to..." LSL c/o 2021 Decided Thread

I was probably a little hasty in paying my Michigan deposit, but I like to think of it as buying a very expensive T-shirt:p Could've told you that :D but I'm glad it all worked out in the end. Sorry it took a loss to realize that, but better now than in 8 months when it's too late. Nooooo kidding. ...

Re: "I'm taking my talents to..." LSL c/o 2021 Decided Thread

Switch me over to UT, wouldja? HUH????? When did that happen? Yeahhh, we've been busy lately. It was a tough decision, but we ultimately feel great about it, although I feel a little heartache when I think about Michigan. Sigh. It was right for us. They matched Michigan's offer and the proximity to...

Re: Class of 2021: It's so c0Ld in the D.

Funny story about the new poll: I will literally have 5 days in between my last final and the start of UT's orientation. And it's a 2 day drive. Awwwwww yeah.

Re: UT vs Michigan for Texas Biglaw

I deposited at UT and withdrew everywhere else. Thanks all for the input! I think the unique opportunities that will come with my EE degree, my strong preference for the Texas market, as well as the proximity of family leaned me over to UT. Good luck! If you need advice down the road on patent law ...

Re: Texas Law C/O 2021 (Admitted Students thread)

Any recommendations on where to look for family housing? I'm currently pretty committed to Michigan, but suddenly UT got back on my radar... The areas around the school can get pretty pricey, but you may be able to find something small in Hyde Park/North Loop or the Cherrywood/Mueller neighborhoods...

Re: UT vs Michigan for Texas Biglaw

Did you ever actually visit Ann Arbor with your family? There is literally nothing that any of us can do for you besides suggest yet again that you visit. Feel free to keep making the same thread time and again but a collective of forum people are going to be unable to tell you what the best choice...

Re: UT vs Michigan for Texas Biglaw

You're getting to the point where others can't really help you, unfortunately. Michigan vs. UT at the same cost for your goals would be close to begin with, but no one else can weigh those personal factors of wanting to be closer to family like you and your wife can. In a vacuum, I would personally...

UT vs Michigan for Texas Biglaw

Let me preface this with the fact that I thought I had already finalized my decision. I had deposited at Michigan, applied for housing at Michigan, and was (and still am) extremely thrilled by what Michigan has to offer, both academically and community-wise. However, a recent turn of events have cau...

Re: Historical USNWR rankings data

...Michigan was 3'rd back in the day? DANG SON  Sure, once, back in 1987, the very first time they did a ranking. The early results are quite different. Oh no, for sure. I'm not reading anything into it because I have no idea how they calculated it back then. It was just a fun fact:)

Re: Univ of Texas School of Law students / grads taking questions

Mrs. Vest stayed home my 2L year; she had a little clean up work to do as she wound down a not-too-busy practice, but otherwise was SAHM. I'm not sure the experience is that different than any other city/situation except that you'll have a lot more time to pitch in as a student than you would as a ...

Does anyone have experience with a spouse being a stay-at-home mom? My wife is wanting to know what to expect if we end up going to Austin.

One of my friends did! But they had a Dillard to counter with.

Re: USC vs. Texas

Definitely retake, but aside from that... I'm not sure UT would be a bad idea for you. Most people who go to Texas quickly recognize that it is the greatest state out there because #barbeque #nostatetaxes #bluebell #southernhospitality etc... But joking aside, Texas wouldn't be a bad decision, and I...

Re: Mich ($$) v UCLA ($$) v Columbia ($) v NYU ($)

I would say Michigan (maybe possibly biased because I'm going there this fall?) But the money bump there compared to NYU/Columbia is substantial enough to merit it. UCLA would be second for me, but both are great options. Would the cold at Mich/NYU/Columbia be enough of a deal to make you miserable ...

Re: So you think you want BigLaw?

There are smaller patent lit shops out there. But my impression of patent lit is you will be pretty busy AF no matter where you are. It's very fast paced. I believe it. My in-law just got out of his Midlaw firm to a nice in-house position after working till midnight most nights. That was prosecutio...
