Re: Government to a boutique litigation firm in CA?

Howell, I’m interested in your path to your firm. What helped you seem appealing to your firm when you were applying? Anything in your background you emphasized? My last couple years in the Air Force, I did labor & employment work. EEOC, MSPB, and union stuff, mostly. There was enough of a carryove...

Re: Government to a boutique litigation firm in CA?

You can also see if the labor/employment focused law firms (Littler, Ogletree, Fisher Philips) pay enough for you to consider applying to them. OP, if this interests you, I made the switch from government to one of these firms. I'd be willing to answer questions. One reason I'm at the firm I am is ...

Re: Federal Retirement - Questions and Answers

If you make it to 62 with at least 20 years of service, you get a bump to 1.1% your high-three. You can also double dip on your military time if you didn't retire from active duty, so long as you buy the time out. Let's say you're on active duty for 10 years, then switch to the Reserves and retire f...

Re: Of Weed & Security Clearances

That said, I have heard differently about applications to JAG, and that people applying have been told by their recruiters (clearly though not in so many words) not to admit long-ago use for which there’s no evidence like arrest etc. So <shrug>. This sounds more like something a normal military rec...

Re: Military Law (JAG)

Just a note that some of the AF DAP board dates are changing. They'll be in September and November this fall instead of October and December. The September apps need to be in by 10 Aug.

I think you have to get fingerprinted? I might be misremembering but I think that's the case.
Yes, fingerprints should be involved. I just got designated as a SAUSA, and I had to do this, so I assume real AUSAs will have to do this too.

Re: Criminal Defense

Former Constitutional Foot Soldier here. Thanks to Saul for his description of his practice. It's really interesting to see, and a little tempting. I was a defense counsel in the Air Force for a couple years. For most of the time I did the job, If you told me it would be one of the best jobs I ever ...

Re: Military Law (JAG)

Finally checking in. I assume we have a very similar audience as the other thread, but for anyone new, I'm an active duty AF JAG entering the sweet spot for leaving active duty. Still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. How did you find AF JAG did in exposing you to and training ...

Re: AUSA - taking questions

Thank you so much for doing this. You have provided a lot of helpful info. I doubt there's a clear answer on this, but how are pay determinations made? It looks like you start with # of years out of law school, and that puts you in a band on the AD pay scale. But after that, is there a floor one cou...
