Re: Fellowship --> Clerkship
Does anyone have experience doing a fellowship then moving to a clerkship? One attorney told me this is pretty much not an option because fellowships have set end dates, clerkships have set start dates, and scheduling them to line up is nearly impossible. I was also told that leaving a fellowship e...

Re: is t14 right for me?
assuming you're not talking about a niche area of family law, i see no advantage to T14 under these circumstances. assuming you're talking about standard family law fare -- direct services for matrimonial, custody, abuse/neglect matters and the like -- i would narrow the pool down to schools that pl...

Re: No Journal
My other big objection to journals as an institution is that they’re exploitative of law student labor. It’s tedious work with marginal learning value and people should be compensated for enabling professors to publish. Professors are being paid to write the articles vis a vis their employment as p...

Re: No Journal
I don't even know why journal is that big of a deal these days. Maybe it's a kinda historical thing, but it's basically just gotten dumbed down to editing/bluebooking/citechecking articles that profs and their RAs couldn't or wouldn't bother to because they know there's legions of law students at e...

Re: Why do you want to be a lawyer?
if you don't want to be a lawyer, don't go to law school. it's as simple as that. fwiw, my moderate/severe anxiety was a factor in my decision not to accept my biglaw offers. i was very concerned about maintaining work-life balance. after some candid conversations with first year associates at my fi...

writing on to law review
someone is hawking an ebook about how to write onto law review. why don't we crowdsource, compile some tips here? the best tip i got about the write on competition was to read the bluebook, front to back, applying each rule to the bluebooking exercise. i caught a ton of minor stuff this way (and it ...

some people find supplements helpful. i think 1Ls rely too much on them, and i would advise against studying before you even start classes. but to each their own. conventional choices would be farnsworth for Ks and freer for civ pro.

Re: NYU Students/Grads Taking Questions
Any truth to the adage that NYU students "turn left" or "turn right" when deciding between courses geared towards PI or big law? From what I've heard the PI professors are in an entirely separate building, and more of them seem to be adjunct professors than professors who teach classes geared towar...

i bought it 1L. sort of helpful but not nearly worth the time investment. i think there's a book that comes with it, maybe find a used copy and skim. also i think the guy who wrote learning legal reasoning (delaney?) has a law school exam writing book that offers similar strategies, and was much sho...

Re: final decision!
If you're 100% sure you want to do ACLU/immigration work, you should probably just go all in on H/that goal and use LIPP from the start. The thing about that type of PI outcome is that you have to show a commitment to it from the very start, which means you can't just do a few years of biglaw befor...

This might be a really dumb question but what's the benefit of taking some scholarship money instead of paying sticker if someone definitely plans on taking advantage of a school's LRAP? Obviously graduating debt free is a different story, but say the choice was between a Butler at Columbia and sti...

What was the application/job search process like up until you were offered your current position? i decided to pursue pi work shortly before my last semester of law school, so my job search was short but grueling. i regularly checked for job postings on symplicity, idealist, psjd, the byu job bank,...
