Re: How do local prosecutors and PDs handle so many cases at one time?

Yeah, the backlog struggle is real across the board, save for (maybe) the private defense bar. Even then it depends on several factors like your advertising budget, reputation, luck, court appointments, experience, etc. As for habits, various PD offices have various ways to train. In Colorado, the S...

Re: Criminal Defense

Generally speaking, How much do you make per year as a private solo or small firm crim defense attorney? Small firm here. Not nearly as much as my civil brethren. I know some solos that are clearing $200k after a few years. They also had to eat a ton of ramen the first year or so as a solo. And not...

Wonder if OP will ever come back... Off the bat: Incorporate and get a trust account so you don't get disbarred for fucking with client money. Get a fucking mentor. Learn how to do attorney coverage work for other overworked solos, though with the pandemic this may not be a good way to network. Be f...

Re: Attorney here: just got 2 DUIs in 2 weeks, tips, advice, please. But trolling ----->

No advice on the DUI lawyer, but you probably want to talk to a lawyer that handles ethics charges before you take a deal. In my state, a DUI is an effectively automatic six-month suspension and a second would be two years. I don’t know if most states are that harsh but I would want to figure that ...

Also recently received and accepted a Colorado offer, so thanks Borhas and everyone else for the Colorado info, it's proved to be pretty immensely helpful. Now the waiting game for office placement begins.

Re: I'm a Public Defender AMA

I kinda hate the no former DA rule under Wilson. I hope that changes. I found out pretty quick that I didn't like asking that poor people go in jail.

I'd also like it if they trained PDs to not hog the podium when all I need for my client is a setover.

A lot is changing in Colorado right now as we have a new head of the system and a lot of the hiring practices seem to be going through transitions.
Any insight into how the Ring administration will differ from the Wilson one? And can I borrow all your motions because I lost a bunch of mine?

Re: Thoughts on City Attorney's Office?

If possible, get a feel for how busy the docket is for the city attorneys. Figure out if a CA is responsible for a caseload (from arraignment to trial) or a docket day (someone else may do motions and another person may do a trial). The former is way more preferred from a defense perspective. I've h...

I can't speak about NC, specifically, but, generally, experience and a demonstrated interest are gonna matter slightly more than grades or school. My former DA office had local grads and TTTT grads. That was in rural as hell Colorado. YMMV in Manhatten. Or Charlotte. Get 1L summer and 2L summer expe...
