Just throwing this out here--impressed by the personal email response we got confirming the application was received. Anyone else applying?

Re: Class of 2021: 2L 2 Furious
Also I missed the boat on the one BA section that worked with my schedule, so taking Principles of Commercial and Bankruptcy Law instead which looks pretty interesting and relevant for corporate practice, but has class on Thursday evenings... You're one of the two people currently registered for th...

My career counselor said that bidlists were due this week or the day after grades come out—implying there’s a possibility they will not come out this week.

Done.
What a year. I've never done anything that's quite like 1L.

Re: Law School w/o intent of being a FT lawyer?
I strongly identify with a lot of what you said. A couple things that came to mind: 1. The law is fundamentally a service profession. That's why lawyers are so tied to the billable hour. That's not to say that there aren't attorneys who work in different ways, but that you've gotta get your start at...

Re: Duke vs. Berkeley (maybe vs. Columbia)
I am from a rural-ish state and have no real connections to any good-sized markets. My preferred locations for after graduation are Texas/Chicago/DC/Secondary Market>NYC>LA/SF/SV, but there is nowhere that I am completely against ending up in. The comparative lack of interest in CA would be determi...

Random thoughts: Re:lay prestige and desire to go into politics. If recent electoral trends are any indicator, these things are negatively correlated. Chicago’s still elite but doesn’t have the elitist stamp. Re: long term goals—political success is somewhat about having a network. Harvard certainly...

Re: Which would you choose?
Are you saying that you think going to NYU gives me less of a chance to clerk than say Duke or UVA? I often assume a lot of that stuff is self selection, but I could be wrong. I would also assume that. I suspect the combination of PI focus + folks doing transactional biglaw + wanting to pay down ma...

Re: UVA $$ vs WUSTL $$$$
That impression you got of WUSTL was very very different from that I got as far as the PI culture there goes, curious what others think about that. (And again, thanks to everyone for their input). My input is just based off of ASW and talking to current/admitted students last year and is therefore ...

Re: Duke it out: Duke $$$$ vs. Virginia $$$$ vs. Penn $$$$ vs. H
I'd agree with the others that you don't have a bad option. ftr, I know a fair number of people here who are environmental-law focused. I'd definitely reach out to one of these folks: https://sites.duke.edu/elsdukelaw/ I know almost all of the 1L reps if you want an introduction. We also rank pretty...

Re: Since Leaving Big Law
How much of your experience at your firm do you think you needed before you could do what you do now? Like, did you have all the contacts/knowledge/skill that you needed after your fourth/fifth/sixth years?
Congrats; sounds like you're in a good place now.

Re: W&M (134k) v. Boulder (126k) for JAG?
I'm not going to say anything you don't already know, but W&M is a great place to be relative to JAG/military ties. Not many Navy bases near Boulder. I'd second Stranger's comment that the COA difference is negligible. But I'd say $6000 for textbooks is way too high. If you shop around it's not hard...

Current student at Duke, maybe probably possibly on the PI track. Happy to answer any questions--congrats on your acceptances! One thing that I didn't really think about when making my decision was guaranteed summer funding for public interest work. Duke gives up to $4000 for only 20 hours of volunt...

Re: Class of 2021: we're basically 1.5Ls now
Well guess I'm still alive. Am I the only one that didn't study a minute in the library over finals? It got seriously gross in there, mostly worked in open conference rooms/classrooms with a couple days in the apartment here and there. Plus all the nervous energy was just too much. The library was ...

Re: 2.9/167 Houston?
The best things you can do on that front are (1) try to squeeze a few extra LSAT points out of another take (if you can) I don't think more LSAT points really help in this case, with OP being so far above the 75th. If UH needs splitters (which I think the statistics favor this year), OP will stand ...

Word of warning on the resume length - conventional wisdom is that >1 pages is only appropriate if you have 10+ years of WE and/or extensive publications. Some schools including Yale seem to explicitly prefer a 1 page resume https://law.yale.edu/admissions/jd-admissions/ask-asha/technical-matters I...
